Previously, the state government had announced about holding examinations for recruitment in grade 3 and 4, besides filling vacancies in different departments by April next year.

The state government of Assam has recently dictated the decision to further hold onto the same pattern of the Assam Direct Recruitment Examination after public feedback. That decision was taken after the first take of change in the pattern, as some apprehensions and criticisms were coming from the aspiring candidates.

Basically, the ADRE is one of the most awaited recruitment tests taken for the posts of Grade III and Grade IV in state government departments of the Assam government. This examination carries major weightage for recruitment to some of the most highly esteemed posts. Any news or declaration regarding the changes in the pattern that followed led eyes brows raised by aspirants.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma informed that as per the feedback received from the public, the ADRE exam pattern will remain the same as last year.

Preliminarily, the examination pattern of ADRE was to be changed and were to be similar to the pattern of APSC. Keeping in view the prime concerns of the aspirants as well as the public, Hon’ble Chief Minister of Assam, Shri Himanta Biswa Sarma has decided to stick to old pattern of ADRE examination for this year.

The declaration has mixed responses, with some candidates relieved and appreciative of the government’s move to listen to the concerns of the candidates, while others lamented the decision and said that a more comprehensive and up-to-date exam pattern was sorely needed. At the bottom line, the major concerns of the aspirants were the hassle created by such last-minute changes and how this would impact their set preparation strategy.

This decision of the Government of Assam to continue with the existing pattern for examinations to the post of ADRE has been taken as principles of equity and consistency to be maintained in the selection procedure. The continuity in the pattern of examinations will ensure a level playing field for all candidates appearing during the process of examination so that the examination remains a reliability measure in terms of merit and suitability for the advertised posts.

The normal pattern of ADRE consists of a three-stage selection process: preliminary, mains, and viva voce. Through this examination, the candidates are tested for their knowledge in subjects like general studies, current affairs, history, geography, politics, the economy of the country, and general questions related to general knowledge about Assam.

It is also advised for aspiring candidates to go through the question papers of the past years and to have as many mock tests as possible to feel the pattern of examination and fine-tune preparation.

The retention of the exam pattern for the ADRE has been decided upon in view of the government’s commitment to transparency, meritocracy, and inclusivity of the recruitment process. It also brings to the fore that there has to be sensitivity toward public feedback and a need to engage with the stakeholders in a dialogue to make sure decisions are aligned with folklore aspirations and expectations of the candidates.

With the days inching closer to ADRE 2024, all intending candidates are hereby advised to have glued their eyes on official announcements regarding the exam date and issuance of the admit card. An update about the same could emerge at any time from time to time on the official website of the Assam government or other channels.

Although considering public feedback, the Assam government has decided to have a status quo in the old pattern of examination for ADRE firmly endorsed that the government is very firm and in a continuous process regarding recruitment. Though the reaction among aspirants has been mixed, the responsiveness of the government towards addressing the concerns and aspirations of candidates had set a new benchmark; aspirants for the upcoming ADRE shall keep updated by the official notifications and continue the preparation for an examination.
