CBSE Announces Minimal Curriculum Changes for 2024-25, Focus on Stability with Select Updates

Share
As per a new notice released by the CBSE, all the CBSE-affiliated schools were once again instructed to continue using the same textbooks for the other classes as they did in the previous academic year (2023-24).

The Central Board of Secondary Education has reiterated its commitment to the Continuation Policy for the Academic Year 2024-2025. Parents and students can breathe easy as there are minimal changes in the curriculum and textbooks for different classes. In an notification issued on Wednesday, the CBSE explained, “Other than Class III and VI, there will be no revision in the present syllabus and textbooks being used in its affiliated schools.”.

CBSE has reported that NCERT is in the process of developing new syllabi and textbooks only for Grades 3 and 6. It has been high-powered that this is going to pave the way for replacing the existing syllabus with NCERT publications from 2024-25. To help in this transition, NCERT is preparing a bridge course for Class 6 and concise guidelines for Class 3, so that both students and educators may ease themselves easily into the new pedagogies adopted and curriculum components enunciated in the National Curriculum Framework for School Education, 2023.

The CBSE has pointed out that every school is to maintain strict adherence to the impending changes only for Grades 3 and 6, while other classes shall maintain continuity with existing materials. Hence, this step will ensure stability and uniformity in its educational practices within the precincts of institutions affiliated with the CBSE. It has been pointed out that teaching practices are to be reoriented to incorporate the recommendations made by NCF-SE-2023 relating to content, pedagogic processes, and assessment techniques, along with all other related areas.

Further, detailed curricula at the annual level—academic content, examination syllabi, learning outcomes, pedagogical practices, and assessment guidelines for the implementation of Grades 9 to 12—shall also be available. These may be accessed by the stakeholders, including teachers, at the CBSE Academic website (‘www.cbseacademic.nic.in’).

The stipulation by CBSE with respect to 2024-25, therefore, is a rather balanced move toward curriculum stability with pinpointed updates that will ensure continuity in education on one hand and alignment with contemporary educational frameworks and practices on the other.
