CBSE has also notified that an Agra-based organisation, CBSE-WSO, is using the name of the central board while organising sports events. It has asked schools not to associate with the organisation

The recent affiliation of CBSE with the School Games Federation of India is a paradigm shift in the way sports events have been managed and organized for the schools affiliated to CBSE. The new arrangement ensures that henceforth, winners of the CBSE National Games will now participate in the SGFI National School Games. This partnership is going to raise the level of competition and further create another platform through which the students can be exposed to national-level competitions. This would thus enhance a more competitive and encouraging atmosphere among young athletes.

The official notification by CBSE has also brought to light that an organisation was functioning with the name ‘CBSE Board School Games Welfare Society’ and holding sports events in the name of CBSE. This Agra-based CBSE-WSO had been doing its activities and participating in competitions organized by SGFI and other sports bodies, thus confusing schools and stakeholders for legitimacy.

This concern came up as many schools affiliated to CBSE unknowingly got enrolled in the sports events conducted by CBSE-WSO. It clarified that there is no affiliation or association of CBSE with this organization. The use of the name ‘CBSE’ by CBSE-WSO misinformed schools by projecting that their events are officially recognized, which is not the case.

The CBSE, in its directive, informed all the schools affiliated to it to disassociate with any contact which claims a linkage or connection with the CBSE-WSO and to discontinue participation in the sports conducted by the said organization. It was clarified that the CBSE-WSO is neither a part nor has any recognized linkage with CBSE. The schools have been threatened to verify from the official website of CBSE, information of claims or communication received by organizations from, claiming to be associated with CBSE.

It also hints at the threat of consequences that shall be incurred by schools flouting this directive. The CBSE has threatened to take action against any school participating in the events of the CBSE-WSO. It is such a threatening warning that shall ensure the protection of the sports activities of the CBSE and no other unauthorized agencies can manipulate the name of CBSE.

The affiliation to CBSE is seen as one of the positive ways through which to elevate the quality and recognition of school games/sports in India. Affiliation to CBSE has brought about a more structured, elite framework in which children from affiliated schools could participate at higher levels, earning experience. Topping it, the association with SGFI will bring in transparency, credibility, opportunities for young athletes, a culture for excellence, and fair play in school sports.

In short, the affiliation with SGFI and the advisory against CBSE-WSO are majors to make absolute the sports events in the schools affiliated with CBSE on a very legitimate and transparent basis. This would probably benefit students by extending better opportunities and a clear way to the national level.
