Delhi Education Minister Takes Action Against Unauthorized Transfer Orders

Share

Worried over the development, Delhi Education Minister Atishi has intervened promptly to scrap the transfer orders of 5,000 teachers issued without her consent. Based on a circular entitled, ‘Online requests for transfer of teaching staff of the Directorate of Education,’ the transfers were ordered for those teaching staff who have spent over 10 years in one school and were mandated to apply for transfers.

However, Atishi had explained earlier that no teacher should be transferred just because of their length of service in the same school. With the element of stability and continuity in a system of education, she underlined the strong relationship developed over the years between the teacher and the student.Addressing the media during a conference, Atishi expressed her shock and concern over the matter. She said that despite her clear directions, a transfer order was issued on July 2 against almost 5,000 teachers. Determined to correct the anomaly, she immediately directed the Chief Secretary to withdraw the transfer orders and probe any corruption or malpractice involved.

The move therefore brings relief to the affected teachers in the transfer orders, as they were dissatisfied and full of hue and cry. They even met with Atishi and submitted a memorandum marked with their grievances. The teachers told of the long association they had developed with the children and how sudden transfers could affect the educational atmosphere. The prompt action taken by Atishi in terms of the unauthorized transfer orders goes a long way in proving that she stood for a clear and just education system. She was bent on ensuring it; hence, the decision to probe further in terms of corruption or malpractice only underlines the much-needed strong commitment toward keeping the sanctity of the education system intact.

Long-term intervention by Delhi Education Minister Atishi in cancelling the transfer orders of 5,000 teachers not only solved the problem faced by some aggrieved teachers but sent a very strong message about her commitment to ensuring an education system that was free from corruption. She lays great emphasis on the teacher-student equation and stability in the educational environment, which speaks much about her commitment towards delivering quality education in the capital city.
