Recently, in his statement, Shri Vipin Kumar, Additional Secretary of the Department of School Education under the Ministry of Education, explained the reforms that were being initiated across PM SHRI (Pradhan Mantri Schools for Rising India) schools. These shall act as forerunners of a progressive educational movement toward developing the pupil with not only academic knowledge but also life skills for survival in an ever-changing world.

According to Shri Kumar, PM SHRI schools will act as a trailblazer in the incorporation of innovative methods so that teaching becomes experiential. One of the most basic concepts taken up under this initiative is experiential learning, which is more focused on practical experience as an integral part of the learning process. This will let learners have a direct interaction with situations and problems in reality and thus inculcate better understanding about the subject matter and critical thinking.
Besides experiential learning, certain PM SHRI schools are working to engender inquiry-driven exploration in their curriculum. This approach is meant to instill in students the habit of questioning, multiple perspectives, and an active pursuit of answers—a way to nurture curiosity and problem-solving. To that end, these schools emphasize inquiry and exploration in order to provide students with a setting where they acquire the motivation necessary to take responsibility for their process of learning and develop a lifelong love for learning.
Another key characteristic of PM SHRI relates to the emphasis on merging academic rigor with the acquired life skills. The PM SHRI schools should be devoted to working further inducting communication, collaboration, critical thinking, and emotional intelligence into their teaching practices—having accepted the fact that academic knowledge alone cannot lead to success in the contemporary world. This holistic approach not only helps them excel in academics but also enables them to gain competencies that would help them sail through different aspects of life.
The prime focus of these emerging methodologies is the preparation of students for changing dynamics at the global level. For PM SHRI schools, education has been redefined to a level that not only challenges academic excellence but also ensures practical life skills are honed. It will provide much-needed benchmarks for education in the 21st century. This kind of initiative seeks to prepare well-rounded people endowed with not just knowledge but adaptive and resilient abilities in the face of the challenges lying ahead.
The insights by Shri Vipin Kumar have therefore reiterated the commitment of the Ministry of Education in furthering practices of education and preparing students for complex and fast-paced changes happening in the world. It is through the PM SHRI initiative that innovativeness and inclusivity within the educational framework are being pursued in developing future-ready learners.
