ULLAS Mela Brings Literacy to Life in Andaman & Nicobar Islands

As a part of the ambitious 100-day vision to ignite literacy across the nation, ULLAS Melas have also become beacons of hope and learning. A scintillating event of transformation took place at the Andaman and Nicobar Islands on July 18th and 19th, 2024. In a vibrant celebration of education and community spirit, the ULLAS Mela was inaugurated by senior officers from the Education Department, setting the pace for the two-day-long festivity ahead.

On July 18th and 19th, 2024, the Andaman and Nicobar Islands hosted the ULLAS Mela.

The atmosphere at the ULLAS Mela was charged. Learners, Volunteer Teachers, Master Trainers, and Officials at different levels merged with one idea: to enable literacy and education in the UT. There were a number of activities at the Mela that would engross and inspire. Workshops, interactive sessions, and cultural programs created an atmosphere in which learning was not left as a task but fun-filled and enriching.

In an inspiring speech, the Secretary of Education, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, elaborated how much had been achieved under the aegis of ULLAS. He appreciated everybody’s relentless efforts, mentioning volunteerism especially, as an important contribution in this collective task. He exhorted all to keep working with the same commitment and enthusiasm, thus setting a commendable vision of seeing the Union Territory fully literate within the year.

The energy was palpable as Learners, Volunteer Teachers, Master Trainers, and Officials gathered in unity.

The ULLAS Mela, apart from making an attempt toward literacy, made a sense of being on the same platform and encouraged mutual support. Sharing their experiences and knowledge by volunteer teachers and master trainers was matched by the learners showcasing their progress and newfound skills. Further, the Officials could address the challenges and strategize for future efforts, ensuring the momentum of ULLAS is sustained.

She added that collective effort has the strength to carry forward the educational initiative. It gave an example of how community effort together with government support can bring outstanding results. The seriousness and commitment shown at the ULLAS Mela in Andaman and Nicobar prove the fact that nationwide literacy is achievable and education can bring a transformation.
