Assam Cabinet Proposes 10% NRI Quota for MBBS Seats for NRI or NRI sponsored students who have conveniently cleared NEET UG.
These reserved seats will be allocated on an annual basis, following a deduction of 15% from the All India quota, Central pool, North Eastern council quota, and Royal government of Bhutan quota seats.
Additionally, there will be an augmentation in reservations for six OBC/MOBC communities (non-creamy layer). Specifically, there will be a three-seat increase for children belonging to tea garden/ex-tea garden communities or tribes. Out of these additional seats, 22 will be designated for Brahmaputra valley, while 8 will be allocated to Baruk valley, Moran, Matak, Tai Ahom, Chutia, and Koch Rajbongshi communities.
Consequently, the total seats for children of tea garden/ex-tea garden communities/tribes will rise from 27 to 30. Moran and Matak communities will now have 8 seats each, including one seat for BDS. Tai Ahom will be granted 10 seats, with one seat reserved for BDS. Chutia and Koch Rajbongshi Communities to Receive 9 and 13 MBBS Seats Respectively, Including BDS Seats
Furthermore, there is a 10% Economically Weaker Section (EWS) quota for MBBS seats in six medical colleges, namely Guwahati, Dibrugarh, Silchar, Johrat, Tezpur, and Barpeta.
