Session on AI in dental education held at Jamia Millia Islamia

A contact session on Artificial Intelligence in Dental Education was organised for third-year students and interns at the Faculty of Dentistry, Jamia Millia Islamia.
The session was held under the SPARC-UKIERI project titled Integrating Artificial Intelligence in Dental Education: Addressing a Critical Global Oral Health Challenge through Transformative Capacity Building.
The project is led by Prof. Dr. Mahesh Verma, Vice Chancellor, Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University, as Principal Investigator. The lead investigators include Prof. Dr. Vikrant Mohanty from Maulana Azad Institute of Dental Sciences, Prof. Dr. Manu Mathur from the Institute of Dentistry, Queen Mary University of London, and Dr. Vartika Kathuria Monga from GGSIPU.
Prof. Dr. Keya Sircar, Dean of the Faculty of Dentistry at Jamia Millia Islamia, supported the initiative and encouraged faculty and students to engage with emerging technologies in dental education.
Senior faculty members from Jamia, along with third-year students and interns, participated in the session, which focused on the growing role of AI in teaching, research, and clinical practice.
Dr. Ruchi Sehrawat from Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University explained the basics of artificial intelligence and its use in dental education. Drawing on her 17 years of academic experience, she broke down complex concepts into practical examples that connected well with students.
Dr. Roomani Srivastava spoke on Large Language Models and discussed how AI tools can be integrated into the dental ecosystem. Her session encouraged students to think about future applications of AI in diagnosis, treatment planning, and education.
The session aimed to familiarise dental students with AI-driven tools and build early awareness of responsible and ethical use of technology in the profession.
