Yogi Govt Transfers Land for Lucknow Campus of EFL University

With the aim of promoting quality education in English and other foreign languages, the Yogi government has transferred land for the construction of a permanent campus for the Lucknow branch of the English and Foreign Languages University, Hyderabad (a Central University). This campus will offer regular programs such as B.A. (Hons) in English, M.A. in English, M.A. in Linguistics, M.A. in English Literature, PGDTE, and Ph.D., as well as part-time courses in French, German, Russian, and Spanish. At present, the university is operating temporarily at the RTTC Complex, Kanpur Road, Lucknow.
The land transfer ceremony was held at the residence of the Higher Education Minister in Lucknow. Chief guest Higher Education Minister Yogendra Upadhyay attended the program along with Minister of State for Higher Education Rajni Tiwari, Sarojini Nagar MLA Dr. Rajeshwar Singh, Principal Secretary of Higher Education Department M.P. Agarwal, Special Secretary Nidhi Srivastava, Secretary Amit Tripathi, EFLU Vice-Chancellor Prof. N. Nagaraju, Registrar Prof. M. Hariprasad, Lucknow Campus Director Prof. Rajneesh Arora, and other dignitaries.
Higher Education Minister Yogendra Upadhyay stated that the Yogi government is committed to providing global-level language education to the youth of the state. He said the university will open up new opportunities in the fields of language education, literature, and linguistics, expressing confidence that the construction of the permanent campus will lead to unprecedented improvements in quality and facilities.
EFLU Vice-Chancellor Prof. N. Nagaraju thanked the Uttar Pradesh government, calling the land transfer an important step for the institution’s long-term development. He assured that the Lucknow campus would be developed into a center of excellence for language education and research.
The Lucknow District Magistrate had identified a total of 2.3239 hectares of land in Village Chakauli, Pargana Bijnor, Tehsil Sarojini Nagar, Lucknow for this project. The initial valuation of the land was ₹9,29,56,000, with an annual revenue assessment of ₹34,858.50. After the university expressed its inability to purchase the land, the Yogi Adityanath-led state government, with cabinet approval, transferred the land free of cost to the Higher Education Department and decided to lease it to the university for ₹1 per year. Following approval, the land was recorded in the revenue records, and the formal lease deed was executed on August 12, 2025.
