Financial Literacy Programme Reaches Over 4.9 Lakh People Across India

A financial literacy programme run by NIIT Foundation and Mahindra Finance has reached more than 4.9 lakh people across several states, according to officials.

The initiative, called Dhan Samvaad, focuses on gig workers, small business owners and self-employed people. It aims to help them understand basic money matters and use digital tools safely.

The programme started in 2024 and has so far covered 40 districts in eight states. Many participants were trained to manage savings, avoid fraud and use online services for daily financial needs.

A recent event was held in Agra to review the work done so far. It brought together local partners, trainers and participants. Officials shared updates on how the programme has worked on the ground.

In Uttar Pradesh, the foundation has trained over 84,000 people in districts such as Agra, Mathura, Budaun, Basti and Lucknow. As part of the effort, more than 66,000 DigiLocker accounts were set up. These help users store documents like Aadhaar and PAN in digital form.

The programme also helped people connect with government schemes such as Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana, Ayushman Bharat and Atal Pension Yojana.

At the event, some participants shared their experiences. They said the training helped them take better decisions about saving and using money. A few also said they were able to access schemes they did not know about earlier.

Officials said financial literacy is still a gap in many parts of the country. They added that such programmes can help people become more confident while dealing with banks and digital payments.

The organisers also gave certificates to participants who completed the training.
