Hong Kong’s Arts Season Hits Full Swing with ComplexCon, Art Basel and Art Central
Hong Kong, March 24, 2026: The city’s vibrant arts season kicked into high gear last weekend as ComplexCon returned for its third edition at AsiaWorld-Expo on 21-22 March, drawing thousands of fans with its mix of music, art, fashion and pop culture.
The two-day event marked the beginning of a busy few weeks, with Art Central (25-29 March) and the highly anticipated Art Basel Hong Kong (27-29 March) opening their doors this week.
At the opening of ComplexCon, Rosanna Law, Secretary for Culture, Sports and Tourism, said Hong Kong is proudly positioning itself as the premier East-meets-West cultural hub. “Since its debut in 2024 with support from our Mega Arts and Cultural Events Fund, ComplexCon has quickly become one of the most vibrant and popular events in the city – a true celebration of pop culture, music, art and technology,” she said.
The programme featured high-energy performances on the Complex Live! Stage with international headliners and regional hip-hop and R&B artists. Collectors also flocked to the “Hong Kong Element” zone for exclusive limited-edition merchandise.
This week, attention shifts to two major art fairs. Art Basel Hong Kong returns to the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre with 240 galleries from 40 countries and territories. New this year are the “Echoes” sector, focusing on works created in the last five years, and “Zero 10”, dedicated to digital art. Other highlights include large-scale installations in the “Encounters” sector inspired by the Five Elements and the “Insights” section showcasing Asia-Pacific artists.
Meanwhile, Art Central will take over the Central Harbourfront with works from over 100 galleries and 500 artists. The fair’s 11th edition introduces “Central Stage”, which spotlights artists who have recently participated in major international exhibitions and biennials.
These three events form part of Hong Kong’s “Mega 8” – a packed calendar of eight major international events running through March and April, which also includes the Hong Kong Derby, Champions Day, the UCI Track World Cup, the Hong Kong Sevens, and LIV Golf Hong Kong.
Speaking about the city’s growing cultural scene, Rosanna Law added that the government will soon finalise a new five-year collaboration agreement with Art Basel. “This is the result of sustained investment and our commitment to make Hong Kong a place where arts can truly flourish,” she said.
With its unique blend of arts, culture and sports, Hong Kong is clearly aiming to offer visitors and residents an exciting and memorable season.
