Supreme Court Justice Jitendra Kumar Maheshwari stressed that the tradition of resolving disputes peacefully has been part of Indian society since ancient times.
He was speaking at the Justice J.S. Verma Memorial ADR & Client Counseling Competition and Navitas-La Fest 2026, organised by the Department of Law at Maharaja Agrasen Institute of Management Studies (MAIMS). The event was held at the Convention Center in Connaught Place.
Justice Maheshwari underlined the growing importance of legal education and Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) mechanisms in today’s world. He also spoke about the need for scientific temper and research in the field of law.
Dr. Nand Kishore Garg, Founder and Chancellor of Maharaja Agrasen University (Himachal Pradesh), shared several examples of dispute resolution drawn from religious texts and traditional Indian practices.
The two-day event featured four major ADR competitions — Mediation, Client Counseling, Negotiation, and ADR Client Counseling (ADRCC) — along with five other competitive events. Students who performed exceptionally well, referred to as “Warriors”, were felicitated during the ceremony.
Dr. Praveen Gupta, Head of the Department of Law, said the competitions provided students with valuable practical exposure to real-world legal skills.
Several dignitaries attended the event, including Vineet Kumar Lohia (Chairman, MATES), Jagdish Mittal (Vice Chairman), T.R. Garg (Secretary), Avinash Aggarwal (Joint Secretary), Mohan Garg, Rajneesh Gupta, Institute Director Dr. Rajni Malhotra Dhingra, Prof. Vikram Bali, and Prof. S.S. Deswal.
The event successfully brought together students, faculty, and legal experts to celebrate both tradition and modern methods of dispute resolution.
