Atishi’s Directive: Withdrawing the Order on Transfer of Teachers
Share
Recently, Atishi, the Delhi Minister for Education, ordered the Education Secretary to immediately withdraw the latest orders making mandatory the transfer of teachers who had served in the same school for over 10 years. This has come after some compulsory transfer orders which have recently been issued by DoE without the sanction of the Minister and had drawn a lot of flak from the teaching fraternity.

Atishi made it clear that such transfers, besides indicating poorly for the special teacher-student relationships based on years of mutual trust, should be retained by all means possible and the senior teachers may still keep their same place of work. She was of the view that a narrow administrative requirement could not be the basis for shedding teachers from one school to post them to another.
Madam’s directions also include that no future decision affecting the morale and working conditions of the teachers in Delhi Government schools be affected without her specific permission. An action taken report has been asked for within the next 7 days.
The teaching fraternity of the national capital has stood fully with this stand that Atishi has taken, and many of them came out expressing anger and frustration with the decision by the DoE. Experience indeed counts, coupled with dedication, in an education system for the success of the students, wherein the role of a teacher is immense. The directive of Atishi is towards healthy teacher-student connect for a conducive educational environment.
Atishi has done quite a lot toward strengthening the education system in Delhi. She has indefatigably worked at increasing the capacity of confidence among the teachers, provided for, and secured the dignity of the teaching fraternity. This decision of standing up and empowering educators came as a continuity of that in Delhi government schools.
Worth noting is that this directive by Atishi is not the first step ordered towards the remedy of the situation. Earlier, on July 1, working under her first official order, it was directed that no teacher shall be transferred solely because of the length of service in a particular school. This was to safeguard the teacher’s interest and stabilize the system.
Atishi’s directive to withdraw transfer orders of teachers is one giant step forward on the path to making the environment friendly and supportive, within which both the teacher and student in Delhi Government schools learn and develop. Her commitment to the cause of welfare of the education system and teachers reflects through her decisions and actions.
This was in view of the fact that, in total, Ms. Atishi ordered the Delhi education secretary to withdraw the order pertaining to the transfer of teachers as one measure for ensuring the maintenance of teacher-student relationships and a good learning environment in Delhi Government schools. The teaching community welcomes this very positive move in tandem with the continuous efforts of Atishi toward strengthening the education system in Delhi.
