The Department of Higher Education, under the Ministry of Education, has  blazoned the selection of 21 exceptional  preceptors from Advanced Education Institutions( HEIs) and Polytechnics for the prestigious National Awards to preceptors( NAT) 2025. This recognition extends the  compass of the National preceptors’ Awards, which were  before conferred  simply on  academy  preceptors, to include faculty from  sodalities, universities, and polytechnics in line with the reforms  envisaged under the National Education Policy( NEP) 2020.

The NEP 2020 places a strong emphasis on nurturing a motivated, able, and dynamic faculty as the foundation of educational excellence. Feting the  significance of  impulses and recognition in fostering a culture of quality, the government decided in 2023 to institute two new  orders of awards within NAT specifically for advanced education. These awards  punctuate the  donation of  preceptors in advancing academic  norms,  exploration,  invention, and outreach within advanced education and specialized institutions.   

Under NAT 2025, awards have been conferred across two main  orders. order I covers  preceptors from Advanced Education Institutions, divided into threesub-categories Engineering & Technology including Architecture, Pure lores including disciplines  similar as Mathematics, Physical lores, Biological lores, Chemical lores, Medicine, and Pharmacy, and trades, Social lores, Humanities, Languages, Legal Studies, Commerce, and operation. order II covers  preceptors from Polytechnic Institutions, with ten awards  distributed.   The selection process for NAT 2025 was rigorous, transparent, and structured in two stages. In the first stage, a primary Hunt- cum- Webbing Committee  estimated the  operations  entered through nominations submitted on the government’s functionary  gate( www.awards.gov.in). 

Nominations were allowed through  tone, institutional, and peer recommendations,  icing inclusivity and participation under the principle of Jan Bhagidari. Following the  original webbing, the shortlisted  campaigners were  farther assessed by a National Jury, which made the final selection of awardees. The evaluation placed maximum weightage on  tutoring- learning effectiveness and outreach conditioning, supplemented by parameters  similar as  exploration and  invention, patronized  exploration, consultancy  systems, and  benefactions to faculty development programs. 

This time, the 21  preceptors  named for NAT 2025 represent a wide geographical and institutional spread, ranging from state universities and central institutions to polytechnics and technical  sodalities. The awardees  illustrate  fidelity not only to classroom  tutoring but also to advancing  exploration,  invention, and public engagement.   Among the donors are Dr. Shreedevi from the Faculty of Science and Technology, Sharnbasva University, Kalaburagi, and Dr. Shobha M E from Manipal Institute of Technology, both representing Karnataka. From Punjab, the recognition goes to Dr. Anjana Bhatia of Hans Raj Mahila Maha Vidyalaya, Jalandhar. 

Madhya Pradesh has two awardees Dr. Debayan Sarkar from IIT Indore and Dr. Chandan Sahi from the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research, Bhopal.   From Andhra Pradesh, two professors have been  named — Prof. Vijayalaxmi J from the School of Planning and Architecture, Vijayawada, and Dr. Menda Devananda Kumar from Dr. Lakireddy Hanimireddy Government Degree College, Mylavaram. Telangana’s honorees include Prof. Sanket Goel from BITS Pilani, Hyderabad Campus, and Prof. Vineeth N B from IIT Hyderabad. Puducherry is represented by Prof. S Siva Sathya of Pondicherry University.   

Maharashtra has two awardees Dr. Nilakshi Subhash Jain from Shah and Anchor Kutchhi Engineering College, Mumbai, and Prof. Purushottam Balasaheb Pawar from SVPM Institute of Technology and Engineering, Baramati. Kerala’s recognition goes to Prof. Manoj B S from the Indian Institute of Space Science & Technology, Thiruvananthapuram.   From Tamil Nadu, the award has been conferred upon Prof. Shankar Sriram Sankaran of SASTRA Deemed University, Thanjavur. Uttar Pradesh is represented by Prof. Vibha Sharma from the Department of English, Faculty of trades, Aligarh Muslim University. Karnataka’s advanced education ecosystem is  farther represented by Prof. Srivardhini Keshavamurthy Jha from IIM Bangalore.  Other awardees include Prof. Amit Kumar Dwivedi from the Entrepreneurship Development Institute of India, Gandhinagar, Gujarat, and Shri Urvish Pravinkumar Soni from Government Polytechnic, Ahmedabad, Gujarat. Mizoram University’s Dr. Zoramdinthara has also been  named, along with Prof. Ganesh Timmanna Pandit from Central Sanskrit University, New Delhi, and Dr. Proshanto Kumar Saha from Rajiv Gandhi University, a Central University in Arunachal Pradesh.   

The National Awards to preceptors is among the most prestigious recognitions for  preceptors in India. By extending the awards to the advanced education sector, the Ministry of Education is n’t only admitting the vital  part of faculty members but also strengthening the  frame for academic and professional excellence. The diversity of institutions represented — from IITs, IIMs, and central universities to polytechnic  sodalities and state universities reflects the government’s  trouble to fete  merit across all  situations of advanced education.   

As the awardees prepare to be complimented on September 5, celebrated nationwide as preceptors’ Day in honor of Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, their recognition stands as a testament to the transformative  part  preceptors play in shaping the future of  scholars, institutions, and society at large. The NAT 2025 donors embody the principles of  fidelity,  invention, and service to education  envisaged under NEP 2020,  incubating India’s aspiration of  erecting a vibrant knowledge society.
