mPokket Raises ₹12.2L for Brick Kiln Learning Centres

Every year between November and June, thousands of families migrate from Jharkhand and Bihar to work at brick kilns in West Bengal. At these sites, families live in temporary settlements, molding bricks from dawn to dusk. For their children, this often means breathing in toxic dust and facing injuries and respiratory illnesses, representing a loss of childhood and a future trapped in the cycle of poverty.
Marking its 10th Foundation Day, mPokket, a leading digital lending platform, has transformed its milestone into a social intervention to address this reality. Through an employee-led initiative, the company raised ₹12.2 lakh to fund Camp Site Learning Centres for 75 children over the next 24 months.
The decision to celebrate a decade of business through a CSR lens reflects a belief that corporate milestones should serve as catalysts for lasting social impact. For Rajani Jalan, Director of CSR & PR at mPokket, the initiative is rooted in a commitment to addressing urgent needs within marginalized communities.
“When you meet children at brick kilns, you realize the injustice isn’t just poverty; it’s the loss of childhood, hope, and choice,” said Rajani Jalan. “As mPokket turns ten, we wanted to stand where the need is most urgent. Supporting children who migrate with their families is not charity, it is a commitment to breaking a cycle that has gone on for generations”.
The complexity of seasonal migration—where families are constantly displaced—requires a specialized approach to education . mPokket partnered with Towards Future, an organization with over 15 years of experience working exclusively with the children of migrant brick kiln workers.
Instead of addressing education in abstract terms, Towards Future operates learning centers directly at the kiln sites. This proximity ensures that migration does not result in exclusion from school, nutrition, or basic care, providing continuity for children whose lives are shaped by constant displacement.
At the heart of the campaign was a vision to move beyond traditional corporate giving and create a collective movement driven by mPokket’s people. The initiative was built on a model that prioritized a tangible narrative and frictionless participation.
By highlighting the stark realities of kiln life, the company fostered deep internal empathy. This resulted in overwhelming participation across all levels, with employee contributions of over ₹6.1 lakhs matched by the company to double the total impact.
The total funds raised are dedicated to specific, long-term deliverables designed to provide a bridge to a different future for 75 children. Over the next two years, the ₹12.2 lakh investment will provide:
● Educational Stability: Funding for on-site learning hubs that maintain schooling despite seasonal migration.
● Health and Nutrition: Consistent nutritional support and a safe learning environment that protects children from hazardous kiln conditions.
● A Blueprint for Impact: Demonstrating how structured employee engagement and leadership commitment can significantly amplify corporate social responsibility.
By designing this inclusive and transparent model of giving, mPokket has established a framework for embedding purpose into corporate culture while providing 75 children the possibility of a life beyond the kilns.
