Experts at GGSIPU: Youth plays a Critical Role Towards Environment Conservation

Over 55 research papers were presented at the two-day National conference on “Role of Youth Leadership in Environment and Sustainability”. The Youth Environment Summit (YES) 2024 was organised by University School of Environment Management (USEM) of GGSIPU. The topics covered included Water management and circular economy, Natural disaster mitigation and preparedness, Renewable energy and green technology, Pollution control and remediation, Climate change and adaptation, Urban sustainability and green infrastructure, Wildlife preservation and Biodiversity conservation and Sustainable food and water management.
The Summit intends to bring together the diverse array of individuals’ passionate about environmental conservation, including students, researchers and professionals. The summit provides an impressive and hands-on opportunity for students to gain deeper insights into various environmental topics, said Dr Varun Joshi of USEM.
The Guest speaker, Dr Ritesh Kumar, Director, Wetlands International South Asia said, “Contemporary environmental issues are largely linked with breakdown of the affirmative relationship between humans and nature. This understanding of the coupled nature of problems also has a bearing on the kind of sciences that are needed to address the environmental problems of today”. Studying environment as an isolated entity, through the lens of biological and physical sciences alone will not lend us to the solutions. We need to engage the social dimensions also to resolve the problems, he added.
Delivering the keynote speech, Dr G Areendran, Director, Tech for Conservation, WWFINDIA said, “Remote sensing and GIS technology application is inevitable in Natural resource management. Geospatial coupled with AI and Machine learning is used to predict future of ecosystem health in this era of fast development. Students have to imbibe this knowledge for successful carrier in the field of Environment management”.
The chief guest, Dr Md Sajid Sultan, Assistant Inspector General, National Tiger Conservation said, “Passion fuels the environment sustainability. And we cannot think of a developed Nation without environment conservation”.
