JoSSA Counselling Round 1 Reporting Ends June 18

The Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) 2025 is wrapping up the first phase of the seat allocation process. Candidates allotted a seat in Round 1 are required to complete the fee payment and online reporting by June 18. Failure to do so will result in the forfeiture of the allocated seat. This stage is a crucial step in the admission process to prestigious engineering institutions across the country, including IITs, NITs, IIITs, and GFTIs.
The online reporting process and fee payment ensure that students who have been allotted a seat formally accept their offer. Candidates must visit the official website of JoSAA at josaa.nic.in to proceed. By logging into the candidate portal using the required credentials, students can view their allotted seats and make the necessary payment. Once the payment is completed successfully, it is important to download and retain the confirmation page for future admission-related formalities.
For students who have already attempted the fee payment before the deadline but have encountered issues, JoSAA has assured that such cases will be reviewed and resolved by June 19. Candidates in this category are advised to respond to any queries raised by the authorities by June 20. This step ensures that technical glitches or payment failures do not result in a student losing a seat unfairly.
Earlier this month, JoSAA released two mock seat allocation lists to give candidates an idea of what to expect based on their filled-in choices. The second mock seat allocation list, released on June 11, reflected the preferences submitted by candidates by June 10, 5:00 PM IST. This tool provided aspirants with a chance to revise their choices before the actual seat allocation, improving their chances of being allotted a seat that aligns with their preferences and rank.
The result for the Round 2 seat allotment is scheduled to be announced on June 21. As the counselling process moves forward, students must keep track of key dates and ensure they meet all requirements within the given timelines to maintain eligibility for future rounds.
Admission through JoSAA is not limited to IITs alone. A total of 127 technical institutions participate in the process, including the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs), National Institutes of Technology (NITs), Indian Institutes of Information Technology (IIITs), and Government Funded Technical Institutes (GFTIs). Collectively, these institutions are offering 62,853 seats for the academic year 2025–26.
Of the total seats available, 18,160 are being offered across 23 IITs. The NITs are contributing 24,525 seats across 32 campuses. Meanwhile, 9,940 seats are available in 26 IIITs, and 10,228 seats are being offered across 47 GFTIs. The scale of the JoSAA counselling process reflects the centralised and streamlined approach the Indian education system has adopted for engineering admissions, aiming to make the process fair, transparent, and efficient.
As part of the online reporting, students must upload essential documents. These include scanned copies of their Class 10 and Class 12 mark sheets, admit cards for JEE Main or JEE Advanced (depending on the institute), category certificates (if applicable), and a medical certificate. Each document plays a role in verifying the eligibility and category of the student, ensuring that admissions are granted based on merit and valid documentation.
JoSAA counselling serves as the gateway for engineering aspirants to begin their academic journey in some of India’s most esteemed technical institutions. It follows a structured, multi-round approach to allocate seats based on merit, preferences, and reservation policies. The system also offers flexibility through options like ‘float’, ‘freeze’, and ‘slide’, allowing students to either accept their current allotment, seek better options in future rounds, or opt for a different course in the same institution.
As the process progresses towards Round 2, students who have completed their Round 1 formalities can look forward to the next steps in their admission journey. For those who missed out on Round 1 or wish to participate in subsequent rounds, the upcoming seat allotments and counselling phases offer further opportunities. The JoSAA platform remains active throughout this period, providing timely updates and facilitating a smooth admission process for thousands of engineering aspirants across the country.
