Mumbai University Reschedules Exams Due to MHT CET

Share

The University of Mumbai, through the Board of Examinations and Evaluations, has declared a rescheduling of some of its exams initially set for March and April 2025, given the overlapping schedules with the Maharashtra Common Entrance Test (MHT CET). This adjustment, involving students from all streams, has been made consequent to the university’s desire to realign its exam calendar to steer clear of interference from the state-level entrance examination. Although the exam dates have been updated, the venues and timings for these exams will not be changed.

The impacted exams were previously scheduled from March 24 to April 3, 2025, but after the announcement, they will now be held on new dates as determined by the university’s examination board. The updated schedule applies to some key programs under the Science and Technology, Commerce and Management, and Arts streams. In particular, Science and Technology course exams, including TYBSc Data Science, Computer Science, Biotechnology, and Information Technology, were originally scheduled to start from March 26 through April 1, 2025. After the rescheduling, the said exams will start on April 4, 2025.

The official notification of the university provided the rationale for the change, noting the conflict with the MHT CET, a significant entrance examination for students who wish to get admitted to undergraduate programs in the state. As part of this realignment, several department heads, directors, and principals of affiliated colleges were notified of the rescheduling to ensure that students from different colleges and faculties were adequately prepared for the change.

For the Commerce and Management stream, examinations which were earlier planned from March 24 to April 3, 2025, will now be conducted from April 5 to April 16, 2025. This change will give students in these subjects sufficient time to concentrate on both their end-term examinations and preparation for the MHT CET, one of the most important examinations for budding students in Maharashtra.

Likewise, for Arts students, the examinations that were originally scheduled to commence on March 26, 2025, will now be conducted from April 5 to April 23, 2025. The rescheduling of examinations will keep the students from being overwhelmed by a series of examinations within a short period of time, giving them an opportunity to balance their university exams as well as entrance exam preparation.

The MHT CET itself features prominently in the academic schedule of Maharashtra students. The registration for the exam started from December 30, 2024, and continued till February 15, 2025. As a Computer-Based Test (CBT), the test will be conducted online, lasting three hours. Based on the subject, the test will be conducted in various languages. Mathematics, however, will be available only in English, and students can try Physics and Chemistry in English, Urdu, or Marathi.

The new MHT CET schedule has been planned keeping students in mind to provide them sufficient time to prepare without the hassles of interfering university exams. As per the revised schedule, the Engineering (PCM group) exams will be held from April 19 to April 27, 2025, and the Pharmacy (PCB group) exams will be held from April 9 to April 17, 2025. The students will be given their admit cards about a week prior to the exams, so they have ample time to prepare.

This rescheduling not only marks the university’s dedication to the support of the students during the MHT CET but also makes sure that there is no conflict among essential examinations. The new dates of the university exams give the students the opportunity to attend both to their academic duties and to the preparation of the entrance exam, which shall be instrumental in their future academic careers.

Whereas students will be required to reschedule their study timetables in line with the new exam dates, the updates have been done in consultation with the education authorities to see that they do not experience undue conflicts. The University of Mumbai has also indicated that it is committed to continuing to offer updates and assistance as necessary to ensure that students are fully informed and well-prepared for both sets of exams.
