CBSE’s New Pattern for Class 12 Board Exams Likely from June 2026

Share

According to a report of The Indian Express, the Board of Secondary Education CBSE is likely to introduce a new pattern for Class 12 board exams from June 2026. The idea is to make students face less academic pressure and thus allow them more opportunities. Currently, the class 12 board exams of the CBSE are conducted in February and March. The students have also been provided with an option to appear in the supplementary exam in any one subject for improvement, which is conducted after the declaration of results in May. The new exam structure, which is likely to be implemented in 2026, allows for students to take examinations twice a year .The board has taken this decision as a part of the implementation of the new National Education Policy, 2020, which wants a change in the education system of India to meet the goals of the 21st century. If citizens tell NEP’s key proposition, it should be oriented towards decreasing the burden of high-stakes examination stress and anxiety and giving its students more opportunities to excel. In 2023, the Ministry of Education declared that there would be two exams a year. This was released under the label of the ‘New Curriculum Framework’. The revised structure would let the students retain the best mark scored. While the first set of exams is likely to go in February-March, the pattern has the second set of exams being conducted in June.

There can be an option available for Class 12 students to appear for supplementary exams or improvement exams for any or all subjects, as opposed to the current option of appearing for only one subject. The CBSE would require almost 15 days for conducting the second set of board exams and close to one month for declaration of results .It could be added here that the new pattern for Class 12 board exams is not compulsive in nature but provides several chances for the students to improve their scores, which certainly lowers the pressure element associated with a single exam.
