IIT Guwahati Celebrates Academic Success with the Conferral of 2100+ Degrees at 26th Convocation

Vedant Gaurang Shah did his BTech in Computer Science and Engineering and topped the entire BTech/BDes batch, consequently awarded the President of India Gold Medal.

In the 30 years of its excellence, 22600+ students have graduated from IIT Guwahati.

IIT Guwahati, probably one of the top technical institutions in the country, has just completed its 26th Convocation Ceremony—a huge event that brings cloaked and beaming graduates together with friends and family to mark in celebration the successful culmination of years of hard work, dedication, and academic excellence. The chief guest delivered a keynote address on leveraging connectivity in Northeast India to enable accelerated transformation in the rural-urban landscape.

At the convocation this year, 2,150 degrees were awarded to students with merit in different faculties. The number also exemplifies the institute’s commitment to fostering a wide array of talent and showcases the rise of IIT Guwahati as an institution of excellence. Of these graduating 2,150 students, there were 1,682 male and 468 female students, thus underlining the entrepreneurial efforts of the institute towards greater gender diversity and inclusivity in the overall realm of higher education. This is testament to the empowerment of women towards pursuing STEM careers.

During the convocation ceremony, a few special awards were also awarded to students with meritorious performance and contributions in academic pursuits. One of the many distinguished awards was the Dr. Shankar Dayal Sharma Gold Medal handed over to Rethyam Gupta, who enrolled in BTech in Engineering Physics. The medal is for excellence in academics, character, conduct, extra-curricular activities, and social service; therefore it underscores the highly exceptional abilities and dedication attributed to Gupta.

IITG has long been credited to be an innovation, research, and technological advancement hub. The Institute has the enviable record of 698 ongoing research and consultancy projects valued at approximately Rs 389 crores. In the last one year alone, 473 new projects have been initiated with a sanctioned value of Rs 145 crores, further sealing IIT Guwahati’s commitment to knowledge and discovery in trying to push boundaries. Its alumni network—over 22,600 graduates—clearly suggests the quality of education and opportunities that IIT Guwahati accords to its students. These alumni have been contributing significantly toward the development of academia, industry, research, and entrepreneurship not only within India but also globally.

The Convocation Ceremony was graced by Professor Gautam Barua, former Director of IIT Guwahati, as Guest of Honour. Prof. Gautam Barua felicitated the graduating students for their sterling performance and encouraged them to pursue their passion with ruthless pursuit. He told them to learn, continuously all through their life, by keeping their horizons expanding and embracing fresh challenges in professional and personal life.

The 26th Convocation of IIT Guwahati became a momentous occasion that celebrated academic accomplishments of students and highlighted the institute’s commitment toward excellence, research, and innovation. Embarking on the next phase of their life, having been equipped with this world-class education and the skills they have acquired at this great institution, they shall enter the arena in a state levied with the responsibility of making a difference in society and adding to the progress of the nation.
