IP University Conducts Para Legal Volunteers’ Training Programme

Legal Aid Centre, University School of Law & Legal Studies, Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University in collaboration with Delhi State Legal Services Authority (DSLSA)  conducted  a two – day para legal volunteers’ training programme at Dwarka campus.

Around 200 law students of the campus law school & affiliated institutes participated in the training programme.

Judicial officers from DSLSA Sh. Naveen Gupta, Special Secretary, DSLSA ;Sh. Mridul Gupta, Additional Secretary, DSLSA ; Sh. Abhinav Pandey, Secretary (Litigation), DSLSA; Dr.Ompal Shokeen, Secretary, South West- DLSA; Sh. Anshul Singhal Secretary, Shahdara DLSA; and Sh. K B Rai, Former Advisor, Administrative Reforms Dept. gave training to the students.

After  completion  of the training these students will get opportunity to work in the legal aid clinics and Lok Adalat, etc.  and also visit police stations  and jails to ensure that the arrested persons get  competent legal assistance.  The training was organised under the guidance and supervision of Prof. Queeny Pradhan, Dean, USLLS; Prof. Lisa P. Lukose, Director Legal Aid Centre, and Prof. Kanwal DP Singh, Professor, USLLS, GGSIPU.

In two – day intensive training programme, they were imparted basic knowledge of Legal Services Authorities Act 1987, role & responsibilities of para legal volunteer, overview of matrimonial laws, overview of criminal justice system, RTI Act 2005, sexual offences against women, overview of laws related to children, senior citizens, transgender, etc.

Para legal volunteer is basically a qualified person who work as subordinate of lawyer, law firm or other similar body and perform the work entrusted to them by their seniors. His work includes finding precedents, investigating, preparing legal documents, assisting lawyers, etc.
