The IPR cell of the University and IPR Cell of its Law school jointly organised IPR Week 2024 with a grand inaugural ceremon at Dwarka campus here today. The event was marked by a series of insightful sessions, performances, and addresses by eminent personalities in the field of IPR.

Prof. (Dr.) Queeny Pradhan, Dean, USLLS, extended a warm welcome, setting the tone for the proceedings. Prof. (Dr) Lisa P. Lukose, Chairperson of the IPU-IPR Cell, delivered opening remarks, emphasizing the significance of intellectual property rights in the contemporary legal landscape, especially to foster creative and innovative culture in the multi- disciplinary university like GGSIPU.  The importance of IPR to incubation centers, Start – ups and  the need for understanding process to acquire IPR amongst the faculty students and staff was underscored.  She also thanked the Vice Chancellor of the University Padma Shri Prof. (Dr.) Mahesh Verma  in fostering  research and innovative ecosystem in the University.

The ceremony also featured addresses by Prof. (Dr.) Nimisha Sharma, Director of Research & Development at the University who summarized the unparallel achievements of the University within 25 years of its existence by creating a robust innovative culture and by bagging rank 33 in the sustainability index.  The University’s debut into QS World ranking is a commendable achievement showcasing the university’s commitment in quality education and innovation. She  emphasized on the huge governmental support the University received to   set up Atal Incubation Center from Niti Ayog.

Prof. (Dr.) V.K. Ahuja, Director of the Indian Law Institute  was the Guest of Honour who delivered insightful  address on  2024 world IPR Theme , “IPR: A Pathway to a Sustainable Future.” He spoke eloquently on  the Pre- TRIPS and post – TRIPS development vis a vis developing countries; and how IPR is important to developing and least developed countries in a world of  knowledge driven economy.

The ceremony culminated in the inauguration of the IPR Exhibition, providing a platform for showcasing innovative ideas and advancements in the field of intellectual property rights. The attendees concluded the event on a convivial note fostering camaraderie and networking among participants. The inaugural ceremony of USLLS heralded a new chapter in the pursuit of legal education and intellectual discourse, embodying the institution’s commitment to excellence, innovation, and societal impact.The IPR week will comprise educational and academic activities to sensitize the university stakeholders on various nuances of IPR such as IPR quiz competition, IPR paper presentation competition, IPR case study competitions, movie screening, panel discussion, expert lectures, and patent drafting competition on pan India basis. 25th April is dedicated to commemorate the achievements of India in the field of IPR with Prof. (Dr.) Unnat Pandit, Controller General of Patents (CGPDTM, DPIIT, GOI,) as the chief guest. IPR experts including Prof. Alka Chawla, Prof. Raman Mittal, Dr. Sudhir Kochar, Adv. Abhinav Nangia will speak during the IPR week.
