IIT Madras Launches New Department to Offer B.S. Program in Medical Sciences and Engineering, as per reported by Hindustan Times.

IIT Madras has inaugurated the Department of Medical Sciences and Technology to offer a four-year B.S. program in medical sciences and engineering. The launch event was attended by stakeholders such as Lakshmi Narayanan, Co-Founder of Cognizant, Prof. V. Kamakoti, Director of IIT Madras.

The IIT Madras press release states that the program will adopt an interdisciplinary approach to equip students with the skills needed to design life-saving medical devices, discover drugs, apply artificial intelligence in medicine, and conduct fundamental medical research. The department’s objective is to train physicians to use technology effectively in their clinical practice and establish a foundation for training physician-scientists in India.

The primary objective of this initiative is to equip scientists and engineers with the necessary skills to advance medical research. The Department will offer various courses, including BS in Medical Sciences and Engineering, PhD program for doctors, MS by Research for doctors, MS in Medical Sciences and Engineering, and PhD program for science and engineering graduates.
