As global trade routes continue to face disruptions amid rising geopolitical tensions, Galgotias University on Monday hosted Rear Admiral Girish Kumar Garg for a leadership dialogue on maritime strategy, geopolitics and global trade dynamics.

The session, organised by the School of Aviation, Logistics and Tourism Management (SALTM), brought together students and faculty members for discussions on how conflicts and instability across regions such as West Asia are affecting global shipping, logistics, energy movement and supply chains.

Rear Admiral Garg spoke about the strategic importance of maritime trade corridors, including the Strait of Hormuz, and explained how disruptions in these routes impact global commerce, business continuity and economic stability. He also spoke about India’s growing role in maritime security and the importance of the Indian Navy in protecting strategic trade interests.

Students from different departments participated in discussions on global trade dependencies, logistics risks, strategic resilience and the increasing connection between geopolitics and business decisions. The interaction encouraged students to look at management and trade beyond textbooks and understand how global political developments directly affect industries and markets.

During his visit, Rear Admiral Garg appreciated the university’s infrastructure, academic environment and student engagement. He said the campus and learning ecosystem were comparable to several leading institutions he had visited in India and abroad. He also praised the discipline, facilities and energy visible across the campus.

Vaibhav Goutham Suresh, Director of SALTM, highlighted the importance of exposing students to real-world geopolitical and economic developments that increasingly shape industries and careers.

The university said the session was part of its broader effort to connect classroom learning with current global developments by bringing students closer to leaders from defence, public policy and industry.
