Climate change is an increasingly pressing global challenge that the world is starting to experience in catastrophic forms. Increased frequencies of cyclones, floods, cloud bursts, forest fires, and other natural disasters are just some of the devastating effects of climate change. As per UN data, climatic changes have already caused over 150,000 deaths annually worldwide. It is now well understood by all nations that concerted efforts are required to control climate degeneration; otherwise, the world will face irreversible catastrophic damage.

Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, climate control has become a top agenda in India. The Ministry of Environment, Forest & Climate Change has organized the National Students Paryavaran Competition (NSPC) under the aegis of Paryavaran Sanrakshan Gatividhi. The program is scheduled from July 1st, 2023, to August 21st, 2023, and the objective is to create awareness among students to comprehend the complexity of the looming dangers of uncontrolled climate devastation.

The Higher Education Institutions have been requested to disseminate information about the National Students Paryavaran Competition (NSPC) and request students for maximum participation in the Competition. Participation in the program is free for all students, and there is no commercial activity involved in this awareness campaign.

The NSPC aims to acquire knowledge on the job skills, competency, and attitude to confront the environmental challenges and their mitigation. The competition will encourage proactive and enthusiastic participation from the students to create a “Green and safe planet.” The program’s objectives are to:

Create awareness among young minds to comprehend the in-depth complexity of the looming dangers of uncontrolled climate devastation.

Acquire knowledge on the job skills, competency & attitude to confront the environmental challenges & their mitigation.

Encourage proactive & enthusiastic participation from the students to create a “Green and safe planet.”

The National Students Paryavaran Competition will be held online and will have three groups for participation:

A Group: From Class 1st to Class 5th

B. Group: From Class 6th to Class 8th

C. Group: From Class 9th to Class 12th

The registration process for schools, colleges, and universities will be open from July 13th, 2023, to August 21st, 2023. The online quiz competition for students to participate in the competition will be available from July 15th, 2023, to August 21st, 2023. The results of the competition will be announced on August 27th, 2023.

There is an open invitation for Vice-Chancellors, Principals of schools, and colleges to participate in this noble cause and become nationwide flag bearers. Participants will be required to register online through the EcoMitram App or PSG website. The examination will be conducted in Hindi and English, and other languages as per the EcoMitram App or PSG.

Paryavaran Sanrakshan Gatividhi: PSG, a nationwide organization, is determined to take up the task of conservation & protection of the environment with a special focus on water management and recharging of redundant water bodies, elimination of plastic & non-biodegradable material usage, discouraging felling of trees, plantation drive & waste management, emphasizing on reuse, recycle of natural resources, and creating awareness towards Climate Control through seminars and holding workshops at relevant forums.
