NBCC was entrusted with the redevelopment of the Nalanda Hostel, which has been executed on a Design, Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) basis. The new structure has been developed on the footprint of the existing building, which was demolished prior to construction, ensuring optimal utilization of space while incorporating modern design and sustainable construction practices. Phase-II of the project has been completed at an estimated cost of Rs.36.61 crore, with a built-up area of approximately 1,07,000 square feet.
The hostel building comprises a G+7 storeyed structure developed in two phases, with a total built-up area of about 1,75,700 square feet. The facility offers a total of 245 residential units, including two-room and one-room accommodation designed to meet the specific needs of married research scholars. The building is equipped with seven lifts to ensure ease of vertical mobility and accessibility.
Designed as a modern and comfortable living space, each residential unit is equipped with modular kitchens, wooden wardrobes, vitrified flooring in rooms and granite flooring in kitchens, while corridors and staircases feature granite finishes. The hostel has been provided with RO water supply, comprehensive CCTV surveillance, fire alarm and firefighting systems, public address systems, emergency lighting with UPS backup, LED lighting in rooms and balconies, and advanced digital infrastructure including Wi-Fi, LAN connectivity, and television and telephone ports. Sustainability features such as rainwater harvesting systems and energy-efficient BLDC fans have also been incorporated to promote environmentally responsible living.
The completion of the Nalanda Hostel reflects NBCC’s commitment to delivering high-quality, sustainable and future-ready infrastructure for premier educational institutions. The project is expected to significantly enhance the residential experience of married research scholars at IIT Delhi, thereby supporting the institute’s pursuit of academic excellence and research innovation.
