Queen Elizabeth’s School Gurugram Welcomes First Batch of Students

What happens when more than 450 years of educational heritage meets the ambitions of modern Indian parents? The answer began today in Gurugram, as Queen Elizabeth’s School welcomed its inaugural cohort of students for the 2026-27 academic year.
Part of GEDU Global Education, the UK-based global education group, Queen Elizabeth’s School, Gurugram, brings to India an educational heritage spanning more than four centuries, reimagined for children growing up in a rapidly changing, globally connected world. For the families walking through its doors today, however, history is only the beginning. The school has been designed around a simple ambition: to prepare children not just to succeed in examinations, but to flourish as confident, able and responsible individuals. Its Cambridge curriculum is complemented by a broader educational experience focused on character, leadership, wellbeing, creativity, sport and global perspectives.
The opening comes as GEDU deepens its commitment to India, reflecting its long-term belief in India’s education opportunity and its growing aspirations for the next generation.
Dr Vishwajeet Rana, Group Chief Executive Officer, GEDU Global Education, said, “Education is perhaps the most meaningful investment we can make in the country’s future. The first day at the school was designed to begin creating a community and traditions that will define its formative years. Students and families were welcomed by the school leadership, followed by a special assembly and Bell Ceremony introducing them to the school’s vision and values. Families explored the campus and learning spaces, while a Tree Planting Ceremony symbolised the beginning of a new community taking root in Gurugram.
Families were also invited to sign the school’s Legacy Book, creating a permanent record of the children who will forever be known as the school’s first students.
Ms Caroline Pendleton-Nash, Chief Executive Officer, Queen Elizabeth’s Global Schools, said, “Heritage gives us a strong foundation, but it is what we do with it that matters. Our aim is to create a learning environment where children are academically ambitious, intellectually curious and confident enough to find their own voice. The Cambridge curriculum provides rigour, while our wider approach ensures that children develop as individuals, not simply as students.”
For Dr Craig Cook, Founding Principal, Queen Elizabeth’s School, Gurugram, the inaugural cohort will always have a unique place in the school’s history. “These children will always be the first chapter of Queen Elizabeth’s School in Gurugram,” he said. “We want them to feel that this is a school where they are known, valued and challenged to discover what they can achieve. Academic excellence is important, but so are confidence, curiosity, relationships, creativity and character. Our responsibility is to give every child the opportunity to flourish.”
As the first school bell rang today, a new chapter began, not simply for Queen Elizabeth’s School, Gurugram, but for the children and families who will help define its future in India.
