The results of the May 2025 examination session have been officially announced by the International Baccalaureate (IB), sending waves of relief and joy across the world. With more than 1,80,000 candidates appearing for the IB Diploma Programme (IBDP) this year, the results indicate a good performance by candidates from all over the world. In an excellent result, 99% of the total IB candidates were granted the IB Diploma, with a trend of high pass rates globally.
Among the highest achievers, a vanishingly small number of students attained the legendary perfect score of 45 points. To accomplish this is no small achievement—statistically speaking, only some 0.1% of all IB test-takers worldwide earn a perfect 45 every year. With such large numbers of testers, that translates to an incredibly small handful of hundreds of students who accomplish this academic pinnacle annually. These students come from different parts of the globe, such as India, the UAE, Hong Kong, and some more, to indicate the international orientation of the IB curriculum.
This year’s results also reveal a high concentration of top scorers. A total of approximately 14% of the applicants achieved 43 points, while an impressive 27% of the applicants achieved 40 or more points, which indicates increasing academic challenge and excellence in the IB system. Not only do these results indicate excellence in the IBDP but also the rising competition and worldwide popularity of the qualification.
Release of results is a critical turning point for the students and the schools. Apart from the overall performance statistics, student results also have been released directly to the schools so that institutions have time to process results and advise students. For students who are keen to analyze their marks, the IB has offered an easy procedure to follow. Students will also need to approach their IB programme coordinator so that they can get a personal code and private PIN which they will use to access the results on the official candidate website. Upon logging in for the first time, they must agree to the terms and conditions before they can access their full results.
Where there are concerns on the part of students or schools about certain grades, the IB provides an “Enquiry Upon Results” (EUR) procedure. It is one mechanism whereby schools can ask for a re-marking of students’ examination scripts. There are a number of ways of EURs, depending on the nature of the issue at hand, and students are encouraged to arrange directly with their schools to activate this.
IB Diploma Programme stands on a global reputation for rigorous curriculum and educationally broad approach to teaching. IB Diploma Programme not only equips students for university but also for life beyond university by equipping them with critical thinking, a sense of appreciation for intercultural understanding, and a healthy sense of global citizenship. The year on year high rates of achievement are testament to the dedication of both IB teachers and students to maintaining the programme’s founding values.
With colleges worldwide continuing to consider the IB diploma as a seal of intellectual achievement, May 2025 results have penned another page in the programme’s success saga. With the community of students gravitating towards education that is well-known globally, the IB continues to be at the forefront of every student’s wish list who desires to enroll at the world’s top universities in the US, UK, Canada, Australia, and other places.
With the May 2025 results in mind, schools already have parties in most countries, congratulating students and teachers. The IB’s ongoing ability to maintain excellent standards while fostering inclusivity and global consciousness guarantees it as a global education gold standard.
For teachers, families, and graduates, the results are not just a finale, but a beginning. With their IB diplomas in hand, thousands of graduates around the globe today stand ready to embark on their next steps ahead into the world of post-secondary education and professional life—competent, thinking, and qualified to thrive in an interdependent world.
