Delhi University Opens CSAS Round 3 for Seat Upgrades

The University of Delhi (DU) has started the third phase of admissions for the academic year 2025-26 under its Common Seat Allocation System (CSAS). This phase creates new opportunities for students seeking upgrades in their existing placements, as well as for new applicants who want to join the admission process through mid-entry. With updated seat preferences, special quotas, and a detailed allocation schedule, this ongoing process is a key moment for many students aiming to study at one of India’s top universities.
Beginning August 2 at 5 pm and ending on August 3 at 4:59 pm, students who received seats in the first two CSAS rounds could opt for a seat upgrade. This dedicated window allowed students to confirm their desire for a better seat and reorder their course and college preferences. Once this window closed, the seat reallocation process began, with colleges responsible for assigning upgraded seats based on the students’ new preferences and the availability of vacant seats.
This phase of the CSAS also accepted mid-entry applications, allowing students who did not participate in earlier rounds to apply. Mid-entry candidates are considered alongside those seeking seat upgrades, giving them a chance to compete for remaining openings in DU’s wide range of undergraduate programs.
The university has made provisions for applicants in various special categories. Students applying under the Children/Widows of Armed Forces Personnel (CW) category, as well as those using the Extracurricular Activities (ECA) and sports quotas, can take part in this phase. Ward quotas, which reserve spots for the children of university employees, are also included in this process. These categories help ensure broader access and inclusion within the university system, considering the diverse backgrounds of applicants.
To help applicants make informed decisions, DU has released an updated vacancy list that shows the real-time availability of seats across colleges and courses. Candidates must finalize their preferences by 5 pm on August 10, 2025. These updated choices will significantly influence the next round of allocations. The university advises applicants to carefully review the vacancy list and prioritize their selections, as this can greatly affect their admission results.
After submitting their preferences, DU colleges will conduct the third round of seat allocations between August 13 and August 17. Students who are offered seats during this round must accept their allotments within the specified time to stay eligible for the following stages. Accepting the offer is crucial; if not done, the allotted seat will be forfeited, and the student will be removed from the current admission cycle.
The final step of the admission process is paying the admission fee. All students who receive seats in the third round must pay their online admission fees by 4:59 pm on August 19, 2025. This payment completes the admission formalities and secures the candidate’s place at the university.
Looking back at the second round of the CSAS, the University of Delhi achieved significant progress in its admission cycle. A total of 87,335 students were offered placements across various DU colleges and undergraduate programs. Out of this number, 24,843 students received new allotments while 27,314 students secured upgraded seats. These figures highlight the flexible nature of DU’s seat allocation system, which allows students to improve their placements in each round. Additionally, 17,922 students chose to freeze their allotted seats, indicating satisfaction with their placements and opting out of further upgrade options.
The CSAS process is an innovative digital platform that simplifies and centralizes undergraduate admissions across all DU colleges. It aims to improve transparency, efficiency, and student choice. The third round, in particular, showcases the system’s flexibility by accommodating seat upgrades, new entries, and special quota allocations, all in a timely, tech-driven way.
As DU proceeds with its third phase, students are encouraged to pay close attention to deadlines and submit all required information on time. With many seats still available, this round offers a final opportunity for many to secure their place at one of India’s most prestigious universities.
