The University of Delhi (DU) has confirmed admissions for over 68,000 students in its undergraduate programs following the second round of seat upgradation. The admission process, highly competitive across the country, reached a key point as thousands of students either upgraded their seats or chose to stick with their earlier selections. Official figures show that 68,116 students have been admitted so far.
In the second round, 17,595 applicants sought upgrades. Out of these, 7,685 successfully moved to their preferred course or college, showing a notable change in admission trends. Meanwhile, 46,257 students decided to freeze their seats, indicating satisfaction with their current choices. Many others are still waiting for further rounds, keeping the competition intense for some of DU’s most popular programs.
Besides regular admissions, DU allocated 2,808 seats under performance-based and supernumerary categories. These include students applying through sports quotas, extracurricular achievements, and other special provisions aimed at promoting diverse talents. These seats help ensure that students excelling beyond academics also get a chance to study at one of India’s top universities.
The admission schedule was strict. Candidates had to accept their allotted seats by 4:59 pm on August 23. After that, colleges had to verify and approve applications by 11:59 pm the same day. This tight timeline reflects DU’s effort to make the process smoother and more transparent, unlike previous years when delays caused uncertainty. The final step for the second round was fee payment by August 24, confirming admission.
Next, DU will announce the list of vacant seats at 5 pm on August 25. This update is highly awaited by students who missed out earlier or still hope to secure a spot in their preferred college or program. The announcement will set the stage for the Spot Round, an important opportunity for many applicants.
The Spot Round will run from August 25 to 27, allowing students without admission to apply for remaining seats. This round usually sees many applications, as students compete for the last openings at DU. Only those who don’t have admission by August 24 can participate. Seat allocations for the Spot Round will be announced on August 28, marking another key date in the admission calendar.
DU’s admission process is one of the largest and most competitive in India, drawing attention for the number of applicants and the prestige of its colleges. With over 68,000 students admitted, the 2025 cycle is moving forward in an organized and timely way. Students across the country, especially those who see DU as a top choice for undergraduate studies, are closely following every update. For many, DU is not just a university but a path to career growth and academic success.
The second round also revealed student preferences. More than 46,000 candidates freezing their seats shows most are happy with their placements, which eases pressure on future rounds. At the same time, the 7,685 successful upgrades show that allowing students to reconsider their options helps them find the best fit. This balance of stability and flexibility has become a key part of DU’s admission policy.
The upcoming Spot Round is expected to bring new hope for students still waiting to join DU. With the announcement of vacant seats, the process will gain momentum again, offering one last major chance to be part of DU’s respected academic community. As the admissions continue, Delhi University keeps focusing on merit, inclusivity, and efficiency, strengthening its role as one of India’s most sought-after universities.
