Delhi University To Retain CUET For UG Admissions 2025

Share

Delhi University (DU) declared that admissions to its undergraduate courses for the 2025-26 academic year would again be through the Common University Entrance Test (CUET-UG), in accordance with the same procedures that were adopted over the past couple of years. The university explicitly stated that even though CUET-UG marks will be the sole criterion for admissions, applicants also need to have passed Class XII board examinations to be part of the process.

DU has published the admission guidelines for 79 under-graduate programmes offered by its affiliated departments and colleges. The university reaffirmed that only such students appearing for CUET-UG 2025 and satisfying course-wise eligibility norms will be eligible for admission through Common Seat Allocation System (CSAS) 2025 portal.

Prospective applicants will have to register and appear for CUET-UG 2025 first. Once they have appeared for the entrance test, students will have to submit the CSAS 2025 application form, which will be available on DU’s official admission portal — ugadmissions.uod.in — from the last week of May 2025. The form will ask candidates to select their desired courses and colleges according to their CUET scores and the subject combinations they had chosen while appearing for the entrance exam.

An important point brought out by DU is that the candidates need to carefully match the subjects they have studied in Class XII with the subjects they opt for in the CUET-UG. The university has made it clear that students need to appear for the same subjects in CUET-UG 2025 as they have studied in their school board exams to be considered for their preferred courses. This matching is necessary because every programme at DU has certain subject requirements and eligibility criteria.

Though CUET-UG scores are the primary consideration for admission, Class XII board exam results will not have a direct bearing on the selection process. Candidates must, however, ensure that they pass their board exams to satisfy the minimum eligibility requirement. A failure to achieve a passing grade will make them ineligible, irrespective of their CUET scores.

DU’s admission cell also notified students that the university would start declaring cut-off percentile scores from the second week of August 2025 onwards. The cut-offs will be calculated on the basis of CUET-UG 2025 scores and course-wise eligibility. The students have been asked to keep themselves informed with cut-off announcements, which will be accessible on the CSAS portal.

Earlier this year, DU held a webinar in order to explain the admission procedure to prospective students and their parents. During the webinar, CUET officials clarified the significance of subject choice in CUET, answered common queries, and tackled concerns regarding eligibility, marking, and the process of seat allotment. Officials made it clear that selecting the correct subjects in CUET that are in sync with one’s Class XII subjects is not only important for eligibility but also crucial to get a seat in the desired course.

The CUET-UG 2025 has become a uniform process for undergraduate admissions at all central universities in India, including Delhi University. It is designed to create a level playing field among students from various education boards and parts of the country. By basing admissions on a common entrance examination instead of board exam marks, DU is attempting to ensure merit-based and balanced access to higher education.

Students are also encouraged to carefully go through the eligibility criteria for each course on DU’s admission portal and make sure that their CUET subject choices match their academic background and goals. The university has also issued detailed guidelines, FAQs, and webinars to help students navigate the process and reduce confusion.

With the CUET-UG 2025 application process already underway and the CSAS 2025 registration opening later in May, prospective candidates are advised to strategize their preparation and keep themselves updated with the latest information through official DU releases.

Overall, Delhi University’s insistence on keeping CUET as the sole parameter for undergraduate admissions reflects its emphasis on a uniform and transparent admission process. Though the entrance test takes central stage, students should not neglect the need to pass their Class XII board examinations and match their CUET subject selections with DU’s course-specific eligibility standards.
