With tremendous enthusiasm and participation from its diverse student body, the South Asian University (SAU), a leading academic institution founded by the SAARC nations, commemorated the 11th International Day of Yoga at its New Delhi campus. The event, themed “Yoga for One Earth, One Health,” served as a lively representation of togetherness, well-being, and common culture among the SAARC countries.
Prof. K.K. Aggarwal, President of SAU, headed the celebration, which was also chaired by prominent academic and yoga enthusiast Prof. Saroj Aggarwal. The event brought together a sizable number of students, faculty, staff, and their families, fostering a lively and friendly atmosphere that honored yoga not just as a physical activity but as a way of life.
Prof. K.K. Aggarwal stressed the underlying core of yoga that transcends its physical positions in his keynote speech. Yoga, he said, is a path to self-awareness, spiritual clarity, and inner serenity. He said that yoga should be integrated into people’s daily routines rather than just being practiced on one special day. Prof. Aggarwal acknowledged the value of yoga as a cultural link and expressed SAU’s dedication to establishing itself as a top center for yoga outreach throughout South Asia. He shared his idea for how SAU could be instrumental in advancing yoga instruction, research, and training across the SAARC area, fostering connections based on common health and wellness customs.
Prof. Saroj Aggarwal further enriched the event by highlighting how yoga helps women become more empowered and improves overall well-being. She said that yoga is a timeless practice that helps people become more resilient in mind, body, and spirit, especially women. The audience responded to her address, especially the numerous female students and staff members who agreed with the positive effects of yoga in their lives.
The Registrar of SAU, Dr. Ravindra Kumar Soni, stated that the university has just begun providing routine yoga classes on campus. These courses are intended for faculty, students, and staff members, and they promote the incorporation of yoga into their everyday lives. The initiative, according to Dr. Soni, demonstrates the university’s proactive stance in promoting the well-being of its academic and administrative staff while also establishing a paradigm for institutional wellness-based culture.
A group of young yogis gave a breathtaking yoga demonstration, which was one of the festival’s high points. The crowd was enthralled by their coordinated and elegant presentation of different asanas, and they received accolades for their self-control and grace. Their performance not only highlighted the aesthetic value of yoga but also motivated others to embrace the practice with dedication and sincerity. The dignitaries in attendance, notably Dr. Ravindra Soni, Vice-President Prof. Sanjay Chaturvedi, Prof. Saroj Aggarwal, and Prof. K.K. Aggarwal, felicitated them for their outstanding performance.
The entire SAU community responded favorably to the event. Representing the university’s diverse and welcoming atmosphere, families, staff, and students from different SAARC countries joined together in a shared spirit of peace and well-being. In addition to being a yoga celebration, the occasion also served as a forum for promoting intercultural connections and general well-being.
Prof. Ambrish Saxena skillfully hosted the event, and his fascinating narration and insightful remarks helped the program run smoothly. Mr. Rakesh Mohan, Acting Director of Finance, and Mr. M.P. Kedia, Superintending Engineer, jointly gave a heartfelt vote of thanks. They thanked everyone involved—including performers, participants, and organizers—and reaffirmed SAU’s commitment to comprehensive education and regional cooperation.
The party had a lasting effect on all who attended as it came to a close. The celebration signaled the start of a bigger movement because SAU is clearly dedicated to incorporating yoga into its institutional structure and wants to be a hub for yoga promotion in South Asia. Yoga is a way ahead for both individual change and regional unity, as Prof. K.K. Aggarwal rightly pointed out, and SAU appears to be in a good position to take the lead in this vision.
