Share

The Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) 2025, a premier exam for science and engineering graduates, is underway. The test, which acts as a pathway to postgraduate admissions and opportunities in the public sector, is being conducted on February 1, 2, 15, and 16, 2025. IIT Roorkee, the host institution for this year’s test, is conducting the test in several sessions. On February 15, the candidates took various subject papers in two shifts: the morning session from 9:30 AM to 12:30 PM and the afternoon session from 2:30 PM to 5:30 PM.
The morning shift consisted of subjects such as Chemistry (CY), Aerospace Engineering (AE), Data Science and Artificial Intelligence (DA), Environmental Science and Engineering (ES), and Production and Industrial Engineering (PI). According to preliminary feedback, the morning session was said to be moderately difficult and even challenging in some spots, with students citing some areas as being especially difficult. The second shift, timed in the afternoon, consists of exams for subjects like Electronics and Communication Engineering (EC), Geomatics Engineering (GE), Humanities and Social Sciences (XH), Biomedical Engineering (BM), and Ecology and Evolution (EY).
For the candidates who are appearing for the exam, it is compulsory to carry the GATE 2025 admit card along with a valid proof of identity. The admit card has important information like the name of the candidate, registration number, GATE paper code, examination center code, address of the exam center, date and time of the exam, and the photograph and signature of the candidate. It also has important instructions that the candidates have to follow on the day of the exam.
GATE is held every year and is very well known for admissions to master’s and PhD courses in top institutions, such as the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs), National Institutes of Technology (NITs), and Government-funded Technical Institutions (GFTIs). The test is also a stepping stone for recruitment in Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs), so it is an important test for engineering and science graduates seeking technical jobs.
IIT Roorkee, the authority conducting GATE 2025, has organized the process of the exam in phases spread over several days. The test is very comprehensive in its subjects, challenging the candidates’ technical knowledge, problem-solving skills, and awareness of fundamental concepts in engineering.
Qualifying cutoff for the GATE exam will be notified after the declaration of results. IIT Roorkee is likely to announce the GATE 2025 result on March 19, 2025. Cutoff marks for admission to IITs and NITs will be notified separately by the Common Offer Acceptance Portal (COAP) and the Centralized Counseling for M.Tech./M.Arch./M.Plan. (CCMT). IIT Roorkee will also publish paper-wise cutoffs on the official website, gate2025.iitr.ac.in.
The GATE test continues to be amongst the most competitive tests in India, with thousands of students turning out each year to gain entry into top institutions or to seek employment opportunities in PSUs. With thorough practice, a proper grasp of the test pattern, and intelligent time management, candidates have better opportunities for a high score. As the test reaches midway, aspirants eagerly look forward to further news and results to strategize their next moves accordingly.
