NTA Postpones UGC NET Exam Scheduled For January 15

The National Testing Agency (NTA) has announced that the UGC NET December 2024 examination scheduled on January 15, 2025, has been delayed. This decision was taken in response to several representations received from candidates and other stakeholders following a complaint that the examination date conflicts with some important festivals, which will be celebrated on that day. All other exams scheduled to be held during the current schedule remain undisturbed, but a date is yet to be announced for the rescheduled postponed examination.
The NTA, however, declared that the UGC NET December 2024 examination scheduled to be held on January 16, 2025, shall remain unchanged, and no modification has been brought to its dates. This modification is only concerning the examination to be held on January 15, 2025. Applicants are requested to regularly check the updates on the NTA’s websites, www.nta.ac.in and https://ugcnet.nta.ac.in, in order to acquire the new examination date and updates.
The University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET) is considered an exam of significant importance at a national level wherein candidates are made eligible for getting awards of Junior Research Fellowships (JRF), direct appointment as assistant professors, or both. Meanwhile, the merit position achieved therein allows candidates entry into PhD studies in various departments. The NTA will conduct the tests in 85 subjects in computer-based test format for the cycle of December 2024. The testing window will be January 3 through January 16, 2025, with the rescheduled date excluded.
This is a reflection of the NTA’s sensitivity towards cultural and religious considerations in holding national examinations. In this way, the agency will be seen to be treating candidates fairly as some of them would be unable to attend the exams due to festivals that they observe. It also brings out the aspect of balance in respect to the diversity of backgrounds in the country from which the test-takers hail.
Candidates appearing in the UGC NET December cycle 2024 are advised to make the available time count. They should, therefore, carefully follow the public announcements by NTA so they do not miss any crucial developments related to a rescheduled date for the examinations.
As the exam is a crucial step for many aspiring researchers and educators in India, the NTA’s move to address concerns around accessibility on January 15 showcases its commitment to creating an equitable testing environment. Candidates scheduled for the examination on January 16 can continue their preparations as scheduled, as the examination will be conducted as scheduled.
The UGC NET is regarded as a crucial step in the academic and research career, giving the candidates a chance to contribute to higher education and knowledge creation. For many, the December 2024 cycle remains a crucial testing phase, which determines eligibility for prestigious fellowships, teaching positions, and advanced academic pursuits.
The postponement might affect some candidates to reschedule their plans, but the NTA’s decision will ensure that all stakeholders get an opportunity to participate without compromising on their cultural or personal commitments. The details regarding the revised schedule are yet to be announced, and candidates are advised to follow the official channels for information.
