“Many consider the National Green Tribunal (NGT) as a villain, standing on the way to development. Whereas, the fact is that the NGT stands as a savior to massive destruction and salvage human life by protecting the environment. We need to celebrate the natural environment around us all throughout the 365 days, and not on a one particular day,” said Justice Sudhir Agarwal, Judicial Member of NGT and former Judge with Allahabad High Court. He was speaking at the World Environment Day celebrations at GGSIPU campus on the theme “Our land. Our future. We are #GenerationRestoration”.

Delivering the key note message, Prof Mahesh Verma, Vice Chancellor emphasized the need to safeguard our Mother Earth. He enlightened the audience by stating that most of the diseases occur due to either polluted air or water. Rise in temperature, these days, is a symptom of future devastation. He said, “All efforts need to be made to restore our earth on a top priority”.

Welcoming the guests and experts, Prof Varun Joshi, Dean, University School of Environment Management (USEM) stressed upon the specificity of environment management. He also administered pledge to safeguard the environment around us to the participating students and faculty members.

The vote of thanks was proposed by the Registrar Dr Kamal Pathak.

On the occasion, a MoU was signed between Sycom and GGSIPU. The day long workshop was addressed by eminent experts on the theme of “Spreading Awareness on Emerging Challenges of Air Pollution and Climate Change on Human Health in Urban Ecosystem”.

Later, a tree plantation drive was carried out by the dignitaries and the students.
