President Droupadi Murmu will inaugurate the newly established Jagadguru Kripalu University (JKU) in Odisha on August 3, signaling a fresh move in Eastern India toward integrating industry-ready skills with value-based higher education.
Located on a 100-acre eco-conscious campus between Cuttack and Bhubaneswar, the private university aims to align its academic framework with the goals of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. Founded under the guidance of IIT-IIM alumnus and spiritual leader Swami Mukundananda—and inspired by Jagadguru Shree Kripaluji Maharaj—JKU seeks to combine modern technical disciplines with traditional Indian knowledge systems.
The launch comes at a time when Indian higher education faces a twin challenge: a widening skill gap in rapidly evolving sectors like technology, and rising mental health pressures among young professionals. To address both, JKU plans to embed apprenticeship-linked learning across emerging fields such as Artificial Intelligence, management, healthcare, life sciences, and yogic sciences, while framing its core curriculum around emotional fortitude and ethics.
University leaders emphasize that technical innovation must be tempered with human values to prevent burnout and ensure technology serves wider societal needs. By blending mental resilience training with technical coursework, the university aims to produce graduates equipped for high-demand roles without losing sight of personal well-being.
The campus itself is designed to support a drug-free, alcohol-free, and vegetarian environment focused on holistic living alongside academic rigor.
The upcoming inauguration ceremony is set to bring together key figures from government, academia, and industry, including Odisha Governor Dr. Hari Babu Kambhampati and Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi. Observers view JKU’s arrival as a notable addition to Odisha’s expanding education corridor, reflecting a broader effort across Eastern India to attract top-tier academic talent and align university training directly with industry demands.
