Share

Choosing a stream after class 10th is an important decision and it should be a reflection of the students true capabilities and passion.

After class 10th final exams from CBSE, the student is required to choose a stream which satisfies their intellectual and future needs. A student can choose from the three available options- Science, Commerce and Arts. But if you think that it’s an arbitrary decision, think again, because the percentile of 10th final exams is the key deciding ingredient. Let’s discuss the subjects in broad perspective and percentile needed to choose them.

Science (Med and Non-Med)

Science is the stream which leads the students to becoming future engineers, medical professionals, scientists and more. In Med the students are allotted subjects- Physics, Chemistry and Biology with compulsory and optional subjects as per schools. Non-Med students study- Physics, Chemistry and Maths with other mentioned subjects. To choose Science the eligibility criteria is an aggregate of 60% marks at the secondary level of education. It varies from school to school.

Commerce

The students of commerce are future MBA professionals, CAs, CS, accountants and other stream experts. A variety of subjects are allotted to commerce students including- Business Studies, Accounts and Economics with compulsory and optional subjects as per schools. For many schools, the minimum percentage should be 60% or more in the tenth standard. Students can choose Maths along with these subjects.

Arts/ Humanities

If you are a student who is interested in history or see yourself as a journalist in future, Humanities can be the fit for you. Many IAS, IPS and other government official aspirants find Humanities as a good start. The percentile for Humanities is similar to the ones before but also varies depending on school.

The above information may differ depending on the school

One needs to remember that choosing subjects does not necessarily stop you from pursuing different things in future. An engineer can be a journalist, a commerce student with Maths can pursue BSc. in some specialisations, and so on. Choose wisely, but do not fret over this decision.
