The Board of Secondary Education, Assam (SEBA) formally announced the High School Leaving Certificate (HSLC) examination results for 2025 on April 11. The results this year were released on the official website, sebaonline.org, as well as extraordinary performances by high-scoring students, such as outstanding Amishi Saikia, who took first place with a brilliant score of 591 out of 600, achieving an incredible 98.50%.
Closely following Amishi were Saptarswa Bordoloi and Anirban Borgohain, securing the second and third positions with 590 (98.33%) and 589 (98.17%) marks, respectively. Their outstanding performance showcases the competitive academic fervor among students in Assam and provides a motivating benchmark for the future batches.
The HSLC exams were conducted between February 15 and March 3, 2025. After the successful execution of the testing process, SEBA declared the results today. This year, 4,29,449 students had registered for the exam. Of these, 4,22,737 students turned up, and 2,70,471 candidates passed the exam successfully with an overall pass percentage of 63.98%.
On the basis of division-wise performance, 89,041 students have secured a first division, while 1,35,568 students have been given a second division. At the same time, 45,862 students cleared the examination through a third division. These statistics indicate a mild improvement in the performance of multiple districts, even though there’s still a struggle to increase the overall success ratio.
Boys surpassed girls this year by a wide margin. The percentage of passes recorded among boys was 67.59%, which is way above the 61.09% achieved by girls. Although the gender disparity in academic performance is always an issue, education authorities insisted on the necessity for continued interventions to help girl students in rural and disadvantaged areas.
Among the top-performing districts in Assam, Sivasagar district was the highest with an outstanding pass percentage of 85.55%. It was closely trailed by Dibrugarh and Dhemaji, which achieved 81.10% and 80.64%, respectively. These districts have been consistently performing well in previous examinations and are still leading the way for others in the state.
Education Minister Ranoj Pegu, while declaring the results, reiterated the Assam government’s focus on improving the quality of education in the state. He congratulated the students on their efforts and determination and assured that the government would continue to take steps to bridge disparities in educational access and outcomes.
Individual results can be verified by students through a visit to the official SEBA website and logging in through roll numbers and registration details. To further ease the process, results are also available via the “ASSEB Results” mobile application on the Google Play Store. The online digital scorecard will hold validity for other academic procedures such as admissions.
For the students who wish to proceed to Class XI, SEBA has assured that the admissions will be done on the basis of digital marksheet. Schools will receive digitally verified gazettes in PDF format, streamlining the process of admission and minimizing paperwork. In the event of any error in the digital marksheets, students are asked to report and authenticate the facts through SEBA’s website or mobile app.
In addition, SEBA made it clear that physical marksheets will be handed over to the students only who have cleared the exam. Students who did not pass will have to apply individually at the Board’s office for their hard copies.
The results of this year are a mixed bag of successes and lingering problems. Although shining stars like Amishi Saikia have earned the state pride with top-notch scores, the pass percentage overall and the gap between the sexes point towards areas that need serious attention. Still, the use of digital platforms for distributing results and authentications is a visionary step in the administration of the state’s education.
As schools and students set their sights on the next chapter of academic life, the 2025 HSLC results are a testament to perseverance, diligence, and the changing education scenario in Assam.
