Breaking Into Global Finance Roles: A Complete Guide To NFET
Share
The way students enter professional finance careers is changing. For a long time, the journey was simple. Complete a degree & pursue a certification – and then look for a job. Today, that sequence is being rethought. Employers want job-ready talent whereas the students want clarity & direction early in their careers. Institutions are beginning to bridge this gap by building pathways where learning and employment are closely linked. The National Finance Entrance Test, or NFET – sits at the core of this shift. It is designed as a gateway into a structured as well as industry-aligned pathway into commerce careers that combines academic learning with real corporate exposure: especially within Global Capability Centers.
What is NFET and Why It Matters?
NFET is an AI-enabled, human-proctored online assessment introduced by GCC School for the academic year 2026–27. It is built on a Hire- First and Then Train model, which changes the way students have traditionally approached professional education. Instead of studying first & figuring out employment opportunities later: this model introduces students to corporate career pathways early on. The entrance test evaluates if a candidate is ready to step into a structured finance training program that is closely aligned with industry expectations. For commerce graduates, this becomes a starting point toward building a global finance career along with a future ready academic progression.
Understanding the Selection Journey
The NFET is only the first step in a broader selection process. Candidates begin by applying through the GCC School platform and scheduling their test. Those who clear the exam move forward to an English proficiency evaluation, followed by interviews conducted by Global Capability Centers. This stage is important because it introduces students to real corporate expectations early in the process. Besides academic assessment, it evaluates communication alongside clarity of thought & professional readiness. Successful candidates are then enrolled into the AI-Enabled International Accounting Professional Program, thus creating a direct bridge between education and employability.
Eligibility: Who Should Apply?
The eligibility criteria are clearly defined to ensure that candidates entering the program have the right academic base. Applicants are expected to hold a B.Com degree with First Division from a recognised institution. Students currently in the final year of B.Com can also apply. Those who have pursued or completed M.Com or MBA with a commerce background are equally eligible.
The intent behind this eligibility is global alignment. The program requires a certain level of familiarity with accounting and finance fundamentals, and this background ensures that students can keep pace with the curriculum.
What the NFET Actually Tests?
The structure of NFET is carved around real-world expectations instead of theoretical memorisation. The test includes 60 multiple-choice questions to be completed within 90 minutes. It is conducted online with AI-enabled monitoring alongside human proctoring to ensure fairness. The assessment focuses on five key areas. Accounting and finance fundamentals carry the highest weightage – followed by English and business communication. Analytical reasoning, quantitative aptitude, and business awareness are also tested. The idea is to see if a student can think alongside being able to interpret, and apply knowledge instead of merely recalling information.
What Comes After NFET?
Students who clear the selection process enter a 12-month structured program starting in July 2026. This is where the model becomes different from traditional education. The program combines multiple elements into one integrated experience. NFET opens doors to top global firms, empowering students with access to high-quality career opportunities and a seamless transition into the professional world. Participants are trained on the integrated UK ACCA curriculum, alongside communication and presentation skills delivered by the British Council. They also earn a Post Graduate Certificate in Management, which adds a managerial dimension to their profile. At the same time, students receive paid internship opportunities with leading MNCs and global consulting firms. This allows them to gain corporate exposure while continuing their academic journey. The focus is on building professionals who are comfortable with both theory and application.
Preparing for NFET the Right Way
Preparation for NFET should begin with clarity. Students do not need advanced accounting knowledge to clear the test. What matters is a strong grasp of fundamentals. Revisiting core concepts in accounting, strengthening basic quantitative skills, and practising logical reasoning questions are good starting points. Equally important is communication. Since the selection process includes an English proficiency test and interviews, students should spend time improving comprehension and articulation. Mock tests can help simulate exam conditions. They also highlight areas where improvement is needed. Consistent practice, rather than last-minute preparation, usually leads to better outcomes.
