The deadline for submission of online applications for the Merit Scholarship Scheme conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has been extended for the single girl children who have cleared Class X examinations. This single girl child merit scholarship is instituted to encourage girl students and develop educational awareness in their minds. By doing so, this scheme recognizes efforts put forth by parents and pushes meritorious students to study further.
The deadline for receiving applications under the Single Girl Child Scholarship X-2024 Scheme both for fresh and renewals 2023 applications have been extended to 8 February, 2025. Schools will authenticate all applications on or before 15 February, 2025. For fresh as well as renewal applicants, the board has made fresh guidelines and this will enable applicants to file within the given deadline.
The Single Girl Child Scholarship X-2024 Scheme is designed to support girls who passed Class X from CBSE-affiliated schools in 2024 and are currently pursuing Class XI in a CBSE-affiliated institution. The scheme offers financial assistance to reduce the burden on families and encourage girls to excel academically. This move reflects CBSE’s commitment to fostering educational equity and ensuring that deserving students receive the support they need.
To be eligible for this scholarship, the student must be the only child of her parents and hold Indian nationality. The applicants must have secured a minimum of 60% marks in their Class X CBSE board examinations. The scheme also requires students to be currently enrolled in Class XI or XII in a CBSE-affiliated school. Another important criterion is the tuition fees of the school. The tuition fee should not be more than ₹1,500 per month for the academic year, though permissible annual increase of up to 10% for next two years, while for the NRI candidates, the school abroad has placed a cap at ₹6,000 per month considering the students abroad also in this consideration by the CBSE.
The financial assistance provided under this scholarship is ₹500 per month, which can be availed for a period of up to two years. The scholarship is directly credited into the beneficiary’s bank account by ECS or NEFT. Provision of funds through digital payment systems ensures transparency and efficiency in disbursing the scholarship amount.
Additionally, the scholarship may be renewed for one more year if the student satisfies the performance requirements. Specifically, the student should pass Class XI with 50% marks at least for availing scholarship in Class XII. This process of renewal reveals the focus on steady academic progress of CBSE while it caters to students for their whole higher secondary phase.
By launching this initiative, CBSE itself advocates the need to empower a young girl through education. The scheme acknowledges the financial constraint that some families may face when it comes to giving their daughters proper quality education and aims to serve as a relief from that burden. It also supports the larger goal of the government in promoting gender equality and access to education to everyone, especially the girl child in India.
Besides offering financial assistance, the scholarship motivates students to perform well academically and pursue their dreams. It encourages families to support their daughters’ education and helps build a more inclusive and educated society. The scheme also sends a strong message about the value of investing in girls’ education, which has far-reaching benefits for communities and the nation as a whole.
The extended deadline offers eligible candidates more time to apply, ensuring that deserving students do not miss out on this opportunity. Students and parents are encouraged to make use of this extension to complete their applications and submit them before the deadline. Schools, too, play a crucial role in verifying applications and ensuring that the process is smooth and efficient.
