New Delhi, 25th January: Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University, Dwarka Campus, marked the 15th National Voters Day with fervor and enthusiasm. The program was organized by NSS and NCC cells of GGSIPU in coordination with students, faculty members, staff, security personnel, and sanitation workers, all coming together to reaffirm democratic values by taking the pledge to exercise the right to vote responsibility.

With this in mind, the event was held to throw more emphasis on the value of voting as an integral part of democracy. Professor Varun Joshi, cell coordinator NSS and NCC, addressed the event and described the vital importance of voting in building the nation’s future. He further elaborated that how casting a vote is a reflection of the power one holds over governance and social change. He further explained the consequence of each vote as he provided case studies where single votes had flipped the balance of votes in elections.

Professor Joshi went into the history of National Voters Day, which was celebrated for the first time on January 25, 2011, to commemorate the founding day of the Election Commission of India. He explained how this initiative has really enhanced voter awareness and participation over the years. By instilling a sense of responsibility among citizens, National Voters Day has played a pivotal role in strengthening India’s democratic fabric.

Besides special events such as this one, GGSIPU is not limited to just creating awareness among voters. Professor Joshi stressed that this university community, particularly students, is very aware of their electoral rights and is eager to take up the task to create further awareness on why voting is essential. The institution is proud of its students who meaningfully contribute to all the voter outreach programs.

An excellent example of student engagement is the B.Tech student from the university who has been appointed as the campus ambassador for the voter awareness campaign initiated by the Election Commission of India. This role will motivate peers and community members to participate in the democratic process, thereby ensuring wider electoral participation. The university hailed the efforts of its students who embodied the spirit of responsible citizenship and inspired others to do the same.

The event ended by renewing the promises of the guests to be the active participants and voters in the process and to generate voter awareness within their communities. GGSIPU’s National Voters Day celebration also reminded the guests of the significance of each individual’s vote as well as each citizen’s individual responsibility toward sustaining democratic values in society. Thus, the university continuously promotes an atmosphere that fosters informed and responsible citizens.

National Voters Day celebrations at the university not only highlight the importance of voting but also reflect GGSIPU’s dedication to fostering a sense of civic responsibility among its students and stakeholders.
