Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University, a prestigious NAAC A++ accredited institution established by the Government of NCT of Delhi, hosted a significant conclave titled Exploring Regulatory Challenges and Opportunities in Artificial Intelligence (AI), Blockchain, and Intellectual Property Rights (IPR). Organized by the USLLS-IPR Cell, the event brought together legal and technological experts to discuss the complex regulatory landscape of emerging technologies.
The conclave featured Ms. Maya Sherman, an Oxford University alumna and Innovation Attaché, who provided valuable insights into the far-reaching impact of AI on industries, society, and intellectual property systems. She highlighted the democratization of data and AI as essential for fostering equitable technological development. Through a series of compelling case studies, she demonstrated the increasing influence of AI-generated content, especially when compared to human-created visuals. Ms. Sherman emphasized the importance of adopting strategic regulatory measures to handle AI advancements responsibly while ensuring that technological benefits are accessible to a wider audience.
Adding depth to the discussions, Mr. Mohit Tanwar, a PhD scholar from USLLS, GGSIPU, and author of The Crypto Mines, presented a comprehensive analysis of blockchain technology and its evolving legal implications. He was elaborating from his experience both as a legal scholar and blockchain specialist. Drawing from this experience, Mr. Tanwar described the transformative nature of blockchain technology, particularly within the context of Web3, which he explained has the potential to revolutionize digital ownership and transactions. He further mentioned that distributed ledger systems can be a means to improve transparency and security in many fields, including finance and supply chain management.
Mr. Tanwar’s presentation also delved into the regulatory challenges posed by blockchain implementation, including the complexities surrounding smart contracts and their legal enforceability. He discussed the implications for intellectual property rights in the digital age, emphasizing the need for robust legal frameworks to address emerging issues. The interaction between blockchain technology and IPR, he noted, presents both opportunities and challenges, as decentralized systems disrupt traditional notions of ownership and content distribution.
The event was held under the leadership of Prof. (Dr.) Queeny Pradhan, Dean of USLLS, and Prof. (Dr.) Lisa P. Lukose, with Prof. (Dr.) Mahesh Verma, the Hon’ble Vice Chancellor of Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University, serving as the Patron-in-Chief. Their guidance and commitment to fostering interdisciplinary dialogue were pivotal in the successful execution of the conclave.
More than 80 students and faculty members from different law courses attended the seminar, actively engaging in relevant discussions and gaining new insights into the regulatory landscape surrounding AI, blockchain, and intellectual property rights. Participants praised the event for its insightful presentations, adding that they were given the opportunity to explore the legal and technological dimensions of emerging innovations.
The Techno-IPR Law Conclave underscored the importance of academic institutions serving as platforms for meaningful conversations about the future of technology and law.
