JUO Vismaya Binu, a NCC cadet, from NDIM College of GGSIPU has showcased her exceptional prowess in Kalaripayattu at the 38th National Games in Uttarakhand, securing a Silver medal in the Sword and Shield category and a Bronze medal in the Urmi and Shield category while representing Delhi State on 29th and 30th January 2025.

Her journey in this ancient martial art, often called the mother of all martial arts, began in 8th grade, and since then, she has continuously pushed her limits, bringing glory to her university and state. She has honed her skills under the guidance of Sumesh PB Gurukkal at the Delhi Malayali Association, RK Puram Sec-4, where she trained rigorously to master the techniques of this historic art form. Over the years, she has won four medals in the Delhi Olympics, multiple medals at the State Kalaripayattu Championship of Delhi, and made a mark at the Indian Kalaripayattu Federation Cup. She also previously clinched two silver medals at the 37th National Games in Goa.

Kalaripayattu, one of the world’s oldest martial arts, is known for its agility, combat techniques, and use of weapons like swords, shields, and the flexible Urmi, and JUO Vismaya’s success is a testament to her dedication and perseverance in keeping this art alive. Her achievements not only celebrate India’s martial arts heritage but also serve as an inspiration for young athletes across the country.
