The National Eligibility cum Entrance Test Undergraduate (NEET UG) 2025, the nation’s biggest medical entrance exam, was conducted successfully on May 4, 2025. Organized by the National Testing Agency (NTA), the test saw the presence of more than 20.8 lakh candidates at 5,453 examination centers located in 548 cities and 14 cities outside India. The test was conducted between 2:00 pm and 5:00 pm and took place under stringent security and vigilance by several government agencies.

This year’s NEET UG has been characterized by a number of major developments, from logistical readiness to the surprise level of difficulty in the Physics section, which has raised alarm among candidates. According to initial analysis and student response, the Physics section of the paper was the most challenging among the three subjects, with some candidates comparing it to the IIT JEE-level of difficulty. Chemistry was rated moderate, whereas Biology was viewed as relatively easy and manageable.

The NTA’s process of administering the exam stressed openness and adherence to protocols. A “whole-of-government” approach was used to ensure that the test was administered fairly and smoothly. A Centralised Control Room was set up in the Ministry of Education, with real-time coordination among the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Ministry of Defence, Ministry of Home Affairs, and the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY). Such coordinated effort was facilitated by sophisticated monitoring systems and constant ground-level communication.

To further ensure the strength of the examination system, the NTA carried out mock drills on May 3 at all the centers designated. The drills aimed to test the effectiveness of mobile signal jammers, validate biometric systems for candidate verification, and assess manpower preparedness for security checks and frisking. The majority of exam centers were located in government and government-aided institutions to organize logistics in a simplified manner and keep infrastructure and staff under control.

In spite of the elaborate preparations, some students complained of delays and cases of mismanagement at some centres. There were reports of long queues, last-minute changes in seating arrangements, and technical issues at some centres. Most candidates vented their anger on social media, especially on the time wasted and emotional tension endured during the crucial hours of the exam.

At the same time, unofficial answer sheets for question paper codes 45, 46, 47, and 48 have already been made public by coaching institutions and subject specialists. These unofficial answer sheets have already enabled students to start working on assessing their performance before they become available officially. Experts who scrutinized the papers supported the mood of students, with particular reference being made to the surprisingly challenging Physics section that featured complex numericals and concept-oriented questions commonly present in engineering exams such as JEE.

The final NEET UG 2025 answer key will soon be published by the NTA on its official website: http://neet.nta.nic.in. After its release, students can challenge any question or answer they feel is wrong. Objections can be lodged online by depositing a non-refundable fee of Rs 200 per question, as per NTA norms. This system is expected to bring about fairness and correctness in the evaluation process.

The long-awaited NEET UG 2025 results will be announced on June 14, 2025, according to the schedule made in the official information brochure. Once the results are declared, the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) will initiate the process of centralized counselling for admission into MBBS, BDS, and other undergraduate courses in medical and dental disciplines. The counselling will be done for the 15% All India Quota (AIQ) seats, whereas the rest of the 85% seats will be filled through state-level counselling processes.

As the medical aspirants wait for their results, focus now turns to the process of counselling that is to be held and the allotment of seats. Given the significant number of candidates and the intense competition for limited medical seats, the role of transparent, timely, and student-centric policies will remain critical in ensuring a smooth admission process. Despite the hurdles, NEET UG 2025 marks another milestone in India’s annual cycle of competitive examinations, shaping the future of lakhs of aspiring doctors across the country.
