Every exam season, brings tension and stress both to the parents. When children work hard at their studies, their parents also give their 100 percent. However it’s not easy for parents also, they too face emotional and psychological pressure. Parents are the primary support for their children. While managing their own work, responsibilities, household they try to do their best for their children. It is also said by the experts that excessive parenting and parental pressure can increase a child’s stress unintentionally.
Why parents feel pressure?
Sometimes parents expects a little more from their children. Parents desire for their children to achieve good marks can cause them stress and anxiety. Parents face just as much pressure as students do to secure admission to a good college. There are so many other reasons too that why parents feel pressure like high competition, financial burden, future uncertainty. Due to high competition many parents feel so under pressure. Somehow, financial burden also becomes a reason for parents pressure because many parents out there who doesn’t earn enough but still fulfilling their responsibilities well and ensuring good education for their children. Parents often face emotional challenges and anxiety regarding their children’s future; they even endure sleepless nights during exam periods.
Common mistakes parents make:-
These are some common mistakes parents make—such as constantly asking about studies, focusing solely on marks, and comparing their child with others—instead of offering encouragement. Comparing your kids and saying like “Why you are getting low marks?” , “See your cousin is getting good marks” makes the child under confident and can even hurt their self-esteem. “Exam should test knowledge, not mental endurance”. Every child has their personal pace and strengths which makes them unique from everyone. Many children aren’t meant for studies only they also like enjoying music, dance, playing sports etc but parents ignore these activities and mainly focuses on their studies and marks. However, in today’s world, other skills and activities are just as important as marks.
Important tips for parents:-
Encourage your child in other skills and activities too. Parents need to appreciate and praise their child’s efforts and hard work. Do not ever judge without listening to your child carefully, and stop comparing your child with others. Parents should be the first role model of their kid because children learn by observing and by seeing. Parents should support their child’s interests, encourage their hobbies like dancing, music, singing, reading books, coding etc. Parents should pay attention to their children’s mental health alongside their own. A child doesn’t need perfect parents—they need parents who are supportive, patient, and willing to understand them. Love, encouragement, and open communication are the strongest foundations for a child’s success and happiness.
