The Assam Directorate of Elementary Education (DEE) has initiated a recruitment process for 4,500 teaching posts in lower primary and upper primary schools in the state. The recruitment provides ample opportunities for eligible candidates who wish to serve the education sector in Assam. Interested candidates can apply for the posts through the official DEE website, dee.assam.gov.in. Applicants are, however, required to finalize their applications on or before the closing date of March 31, 2025.
While the overall vacancies stand at 4,500, a total of around 2,900 posts fall in the category of Assistant Teachers for lower primary schools, while 1,600 posts have been reserved for other categories of teaching posts such as Assistant Teachers, Science Teachers, and Hindi Teachers for upper primary schools. This vacancy diversity offers a range of career opportunities for aspiring teachers in various subjects and levels of schools. The DEE has made it clear that category-wise and district-wise merit lists will be issued, enabling the candidates to be evaluated on their qualifications and suitability in their particular fields.
To qualify for these roles, the applicants should have cleared either the Central Teacher Eligibility Test (CTET) or the Assam Teacher Eligibility Test (ATET). Beyond this, the one of the languages (Language 1 or Language 2) in the CTET or ATET should be the same as the school’s medium of instruction where they are applying. This requirement ensures that the candidates are adequately equipped to teach in the prescribed language of instruction in Assam schools, which is a prerequisite for smooth communication and teaching.
Age limits for applicants vary from 18 to 40 years as of January 1, 2025. Nevertheless, the DEE has stated that some age relaxations will be provided to candidates from reserved categories, as per government policies. In addition, it should be mentioned that applicants with more than two surviving children born on or after January 1, 2021, are not entitled to apply for the posts. This rule aligns with the family planning policies of the Assam government.
The recruitment of the DEE teacher posts will be merit-based, with academic qualifications of the applicants being an important factor in the assessment. The academic requirements are qualifications like Higher Secondary (or equivalent), graduation, and a Diploma in Education. Moreover, the performance of the candidates in the Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) will play an important role in the selection process. This way, only candidates with appropriate academic qualifications as well as teaching abilities are appointed as teachers to the state.
For applicants interested in filling the posts, the process is easy but demanding in terms of detail. First, the candidates are required to access the DEE Assam recruitment portal at dee.assam.gov.in. On the portal, applicants will be asked to submit a valid email ID and an operational mobile phone number for communication. The second step entails filling personal and educational information, after which essential documents have to be submitted. Such documents contain photocopies of the TET certificate, educational certificates, passport photograph, and signature of the applicant.
After completing the application form and uploading the required documents, the candidates must go through the entries carefully before submitting the form. After submission, it is also important to download and take a printout of the submitted application form for future use. This allows candidates to retain a record of their application for any future follow-up actions or correspondence regarding the recruitment process.
The 4,500 teacher vacancies offered by the DEE Assam provide a great opportunity for efficient and motivated candidates to become part of the state’s education system. By recruiting through these vacancies, the DEE plans to improve lower and upper primary school education, thus helping to shape the state’s educational infrastructure. This hiring drive also goes hand-in-hand with the government’s steady push towards upping the standard of education as well as developing better learning systems for the Assam students.
Interested aspirants should study the official announcement carefully and strictly adhere to the application process by the DEE to prove themselves eligible as well as to file on time. As the March 31, 2025, deadline draws near, it is crucial for applicants to start the process early to ensure that there are no last-minute complications. This is an excellent chance for people who want to make a real difference in the education sector while having a stable and rewarding career as a teacher.
