CBSE Summit Highlights Mental Health And Student Well-being

The CBSE’s National Adolescent Summit 2024 concluded by the experts with regard to involving students in extra-curricular activities, counseling mechanisms in schools. At this summit, to enable and enhance the holistic growth of the student, more than 850 participants from India as well as foreign nations had gathered to talk over burning adolescent issues.
In his inaugural address, Rahul Singh, Chairman of CBSE, highlighted the transformational power of adolescence and the need for education that extends beyond textbooks and classrooms. He said that educational experiences that foster self-awareness and contributions to society are essential. He encouraged students to engage in extracurricular activities and discover their talents and channelize themselves meaningfully.
Himanshu Gupta, Secretary CBSE spoke on the changing challenges that students faced in modern times, among which information overload and changing family dynamics were there. He emphasized the critical need for schools to have the right mechanisms of counseling for a healthy mind. He further pressed for inclusive learning environments that provide adequate resources for mental health, very important to help students steer through the challenges.
The summit also featured an inspiring Health and Wellness Exhibition, with 120 innovative projects from schools across India focused on health and well-being. Besides the exhibition, there were vibrant activities to foster creativity and engagement among students, including the Yuva Sansad-a dynamic adolescent well-being parliament in which 70 young participants discussed key youth issues. Other prominent events were Kalakriti, the painting competition, where 110 entries participated; Eloquence, the spirited debating championship bringing together schools; and Tarang, which showcased 90 Indian classical dance solos. The Pathshala Nukkad Ki, a theatrical performance series, discussed contemporary themes, while Manovriti featured 50 short films created by students, highlighting their creative talents.
The summit also hosted the Q-Smart national health and wellness quiz competition, which garnered overwhelming interest, necessitating multiple sessions. Panel discussions and workshops were organised for counsellors and wellness teachers, offering them valuable insights on supporting students. Special interactive sessions provided participants with opportunities to engage with experts and explore new strategies for addressing adolescent challenges.
The event ended with a commitment from all participants to focus on the well-being of students, enhance mental health initiatives, and foster an inclusive school ecosystem. In accordance with the vision of NEP 2020, CBSE reconfirmed its commitment to student empowerment through innovative programs and holistic counseling mechanisms. The summit called for continued cooperation between schools, families, and communities to support student well-being and holistic development.
The National Adolescent Summit 2024, with the theme “Life Skills, Mental Health, Safety, and Well-being,” is a very important platform in creating meaningful dialogue on these critical issues that affect adolescents at this point in time. Focus areas were mental health, life skills, and student safety, which ensured an environment where students were academically, socially, and emotionally thriving.
