IIT Delhi-Abu Dhabi Opens PhD Applications In Energy

IIT Delhi’s international campus, IIT Delhi-Abu Dhabi, has officially opened applications for its inaugural PhD programme in Energy and Sustainability, set to commence in January 2025. This marks a significant milestone for the institution, offering an unparalleled opportunity for students across the globe to engage in cutting-edge research aimed at addressing critical challenges in energy transitions and sustainability. It is the program set to pursue innovation and research excellence, targeting top talent people who will contribute to and advance the world’s pursuit of sustainable energy.

This is a totally research-driven program, and with advanced technologies and research methodologies, it addresses the critical issues regarding energy in the world. The program provides an intense academic environment where students work on actual problems under the guidance of leading experts.

The research areas include AI-driven photonic sensors for environmental monitoring and sensing, hydrogen storage technologies for efficient energy storage, predictive thermal management for optimal performance in electric vehicles, and techno-economic evaluation of pathways for energy transition. This dynamic approach ensures contributors’ direct contribution to building transformative solutions for global sustainability.

The application dates of the programme were between 14th December 2024 and 31st December 2024. There would be selection based on the qualifications, research experience and also the performance of qualifying exams. Along with shortlisting there will also be an online interview which would take place between 3rd January and 6th January, 2025. The results are expected to come on 10th January, 2025. Registration and orientation of the program will start officially from 27th January, 2025. The eligibility criteria require a master’s degree from the relevant stream with a minimum CGPA of 7.5, which means an aggregate of 75% or an exemplary Bachelor’s degree with 8.75 CGPA (87.5%).

Valid scores from standardized tests; applicants should have a minimum GATE score of 350 or a GRE Quantitative Reasoning score of 150. IIT graduates who have a CGPA of 8.0 or above are exempted. At least two years of work experience is also mandatory, along with GATE/GRE exemptions for the candidates who are sponsored.

It will offer very generous scholarships for the support of outstanding candidates. There will be a waiver on the tuition fee, along with a monthly stipend of AED 30,000 for UAE nationals. This amount covers accommodation. International students, including Indian citizens, can also get a full waiver on tuition fees, with a stipend of AED 15,000. This is to attract a wide pool of talented individuals who would apply for the program.

Applicants are required to submit a Statement of Purpose (SoP) detailing their motivation for pursuing the PhD, their understanding of the selected research project, and how their academic background aligns with the programme’s objectives. The SoP is a crucial component of the application, enabling the selection committee to assess each candidate’s vision and alignment with the programme’s goals. IIT Delhi-Abu Dhabi PhD Programme represents a transformative step towards the promotion of sustainable energy solutions.
