Share

The National Medical Commission (NMC) has further extended the deadline for submission of Google forms by the eligible faculty members of government medical colleges who are interested in joining the inspection teams for medical colleges across the country. This will provide the faculty members with another 15 days to submit their willingness to participate in this important task of conducting inspections aimed at ensuring quality medical education in India.

According to the official notice issued by NMC, the principals of government medical colleges are required to share the Google form with all the eligible faculty members and get their expression of interest to join the inspection teams of NMC. The deadline for submission of forms was to be within 15 days from the date of publication of this notice. It has now been extended further for a period of 15 days. This is an important step to ensure that there is a critical mass of qualified and willing faculty members who can be involved in the process. It plays an important role in maintaining standards of medical education.

The teams conducting surprise inspections are expected to consist of faculty members from government medical colleges to inspect other medical colleges all across the country. It is deemed necessary for carrying out the inspections so that proper and necessary judgments regarding infrastructure, teaching methodology, and education quality could be obtained from the concerned sources. Inspections in such manner shall contribute greatly towards bettering medical education standards in India. This can ensure that all such institutions can be made compliant with those benchmarks which NMC desires them to maintain.

The NMC initiative has to include experienced faculty members for the process as a requirement; these experts contribute expertise toward evaluating the performance and the quality of the functioning at medical colleges. Hence, through an enhanced eligibility among the faculty, building highly competent professionals into this body would be something in consideration for the commission.

Accordingly, deans and principals of government medical colleges have been advised to share the Google form with each eligible faculty member who is qualified to become a PG teacher. They have to fill up the form within the extended timeline if they are willing to take part in the inspection process. The form will enable the NMC to identify a list of staff members with a view of joining these inspection teams.

An important constituent in maintaining the credibility and efficiency of medical education in India is the inspection process.

Regular review of the conditions in which medical education is given ensures that the institutions involved do not just meet but continue to improve on their teaching and infrastructure. Involvement of faculty members of government medical colleges adds the required experience and expertise toward the high standards of education required in the medical profession.

Hugely effective in the inspections faculty members to be inducted as eligible for PG guide designation. The presence of such faculty will not only allow judgements about standard of training in medical fields but ensure that points to improve upon the situation are presented so improvements can, by this process, also be implemented over a wider network of institutions so that higher standards can eventually be sought within the realm of this country. The NMC appeals to all the eligible faculty members to be part of this huge undertaking and contribute towards forging the future of medical education in India by ensuring that health professionals, the next generation, are well-prepared. All faculty members are hereby requested to submit their forms by the extended date to become eligible for consideration.
