NMC Invites Applications For New Medical Colleges 2025

Share

The National Medical Commission (NMC) has released an Expression of Intent (EOI) for applications to build new medical colleges or institutes that would seek to award undergraduate (UG) medicine courses for the academic session 2025-26. This will help elevate the number of UG seats in the country as well as enhance opportunities to aspiring medical students. Stakes interested in this particular initiative are supposed to create their account on the given portal by January 4, 2025.

Applications will be received online only, including enclosures and fees, for the new academic year. The authority has clarified that no application will be considered through post. The applications submitted will have to meet all the stringent regulations set by the NMC along with the guidelines of MSR, orders, notices, and circulars issued by the NMC and other regulatory bodies. In order to be eligible for consideration, institutions wanting to establish new medical colleges or increase the number of seats for undergraduate medical courses must adhere to these norms.

The Medical Assessment and Rating Board (MARB) plays a crucial role in granting permission to facilitate the establishment of new medical institutions or an increase in UG or postgraduate (PG) seats. Applications are assessed through successive evaluation levels for the UG and PG programs. These include an elaborate examination of necessary documents and other supporting material, which are self-attested and, in cases, digitally signed. Key documents are the EC, CoA, application fees, bank guarantees, status of the MBBS course, letter of permission, AEBAS data reports, and other related correspondence.

The MARB’s evaluation process is comprehensive and includes verification of submitted documents, which may be in digital or physical formats. This process also involves checking the Aadhaar-based attendance register, verification of live video feeds, photographs, and data from the Hospital Management Information System (HMIS). Additionally, both physical and virtual assessments may be conducted to ensure compliance with the NMC’s requirements and standards.

The online application process begins with registration on the portal that has been designated. The applicants will be asked to click on a “click here to proceed to registration page” icon in order to begin the registration process. Once they are registered successfully, applicants will be given a unique ID and a one-time password via their registered email. The next step is signing in to the portal through the unique ID and then OTP, and then applying for a new password, and then again logging back in with the unique ID and the new password that was applied. Finally, one clicks on the icon “Start Application–starting of new PG course/Increase of PG seats” to initiate the application for the start of a new medical institution or the increase of the number of seats.

The NMC, in its efforts, aims to enhance the availability of medical education in India, thereby filling the ever-increasing gap for medical professionals. With this decision, the NMC aspires to have more efficient healthcare workforces with seats in the expansion of colleges. It hopes to achieve this goal so that maximum students will have an opportunity to pursue a medical career. The application procedure goes online for ensuring ease with efficiency and transparency in handling the evaluation procedure of those applications. All such institutions interested in establishing new medical colleges or increasing their intake of medical students are encouraged to go through the prescribed process very carefully and submit their applications within the stipulated deadlines.
